Is it just me? Or is everyone getting these damned pop-up ads here? If it is just me, is there a way to find "whatever is causing them" and turning it off?

I haven't noticed an increase in pop-up ad's on my pc as a result of this site. Go to WWW.LAVASOFT.COM and download a copy of Ad-Aware. I run it a couple of time a week to get rid of the cookies that cause a lot of those pop-ups to keep showing up.

I have never had a single popup on Club Polk. I use ad-aware too, but I never had any popups on this site before I started using it. It may just be a coincidence but the level of spam I've been getting since I downloaded Ad-aware and started using it has increased significantly. Like I said maybe it's just a coincidence...

Has mozilla gotten faster yet? I was using it a while ago but it was incredibly freaking slow, especially on Java stuff. It's like billion times better than the AOHELL versions of Netscape too but it still looks and feels the same.

A little, but it still sucks. ;)

If you don't want to use IE, check out opera.

I think you have some spyware on your computer that is periodically hitting the ads.

I do not run any popup blocker and I have never received a popup ad on Club Polk.

Get a copy of Ad Aware, Pest Patrol, etc. and scan your system. I'll bet you'll find some program there.

Have you recently downloaded some "freeware" that you didn't read the EULA for? You'd be surprised what some of the EULA's contain... most ask that you give them permission to use spyware to periodically hit ad links. It's a big tip off if you downloaded some "homepageware."

Just a side note, any pop-up ads you are seeing have somehow been installed onto your machine and are constantly connecting to some Ad server and randomly showing you ads. This is especially true if you have ever used Kaza, or you go to lots of **** site :D

The anti-popup software works well. Polk never serves up pop-up ads from other companies (not even our own), so I'm not sure why you are seeing more when you come to the clubpolk pages.

Ron, I wouldn't complain about those pop ups... pop outs. ;)

Matter of fact, I wish she'd just pop out of the monitor right now and be here in person.

If you can, try and use Kazaa Lite. Kazaa is known for its spyware, and they know it. Thats why they released Kazaa lite, which is spyware free. Even when you run ad-aware a few portions of Kazaa lite show up, but they are a part of the program (that is used to detect your internet connection to know when to connect the program, I believe) and definitely use Ad-Aware... That damn Gator program keeps showing up somehow... Also to block pop-ups, I use a program called No-Ads. You can do a search on Kazaa for it- its very small, and works great. Simple, but great. If there is enough interest for this program I might put it up on my website in a while for you guys to download. take it easy and enjoy your friday nights. Weekends, too. Tahoe here I come! Mike

Most firewalls will eliminate pop up ads too.

Try Opera 7 browser. It has a no pop up option among other great options and innovations. Makes Explorer, Netscape, and Mozilla browsers act and look ancient. opera.com........

Yup... Norton Internet Security here... not just pop-up prevent, but attack interception. Roughly 20 "trojan horse"attacks on me intercepted in Jan. alone. Most from South Korea.

Firewall's a must for high speed connects due to constant IP address... dial ups not as essential, different address every connection...
