Hi all,

I am the not so proud owner of a Yamaha RX-V630 (75 watt per channel 5.1 receiver) and was thinking about driving the L and R fronts with a Kenwwod Basic M2A (via the Yamaha's pre-out connection). The Yamaha would take care of the center and two rears.

Some Kenwood M2A specs:

Power Output: 220 watts per channel minimum RMS, both channels driven at 8 ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than .005% total harmonic distortion.
Clipping Power: 247 watts/channel at 1 kHz at 8 ohms - 350 watts/channel, 1 kHz at 4 ohms
Clipping Headroom: 0.5 dB at 8 ohms
Dynamic Power: 346 watts/channel at 1 kHz at 8 ohms - 526 watts/channel, 1 kHz at 4 ohms
Dynamic Headroom: 2 dB at 8 ohms
Total Harmonic Distortion: 20Hz to 20kHz, 0.004 % at rated power into 8 ohms, 0.001 % at rated power into 8 ohms at 1kHz.
Intermodulation Distortion: 60Hz to 7kHz - 4:1, 0.004 % at rated power into 8 ohms.
Damping Factor: More than 1,000 at 100 Hz.
Transient Response: 1.6uS rise time, ~100V/uS slew rate.
Frequency Response: DC to 20kHz, +0, -3dB.
Signal to Noise Ratio: 120 dB (IHF-A Curve)
Speaker Impedance: Accepts 4 to 16 ohms

I am considering a pair of refurbished LSi9s for the fronts, a CSi A4 for the center, and small RTis for the rears. Any 4 ohm issues with the LSI9 and the Kenwood?

I listen to music about 70% of the time and really like good speakers. I love my old Monitor 10s but they are way too big for my space. Does this make sense? Am I crazy? Would I be better off with RTiA7s or Rti9s in the front?

Thanks in advance!

    Welcome!

The M2A is a beast of an amp and would drive LSis just fine. My concern for your choice of speakers is the voice mismatching between RTi/CSi line and the LSis. The tweeters are pretty different and you may notice it with motion panning acrossed the front stage in movies. I try to stay with one line acrossed the front if I can.

    Just my opinion....

Thanks Dennis, I appreciate your help!

I bought my M2A in 1986 and it has served me well all these years. Glad to hear it should work fine with the LSis. Also, thanks for the advice regarding the LSi center. I'll save my pennies for that one.

    Dennis,

If your're still out there, are there any issuses with the Yamaha driving the LSiC and two Rti rears?
