Not with those shipping charges. I got a set from San Jose and shipping was 95.

If someone local could buy it without shipping charges then it'll be a great deal.

Hi guys- I’m an original Monitor 10 owner. I purchased them back in 1981. Unfortunately, I let them go off to college with my oldest son in 1990; the 10s never came home but I now have the opportunity to purchase locally two pairs of 10s in good condition.:D

I would like to do that and put together a vintage surround system (five Monitor 10 speakers, Dynakit MKIII monoblocks, etc.).

I’m wondering what upgrades, if any, for the 10s have been discussed in this forum. I’ve found some threads discussing a different tweeter, crossover upgrades, etc. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I have my 10As since new in 1981 or so. I just replaced the tweeters. (from Polk)
They are still breaking in but they seem to be more accurate and pleasing to my ear. Smoother if you will. I'm considering ordering drivers tho mine are in like new shape.

Bose no longer sells the drivers for the 601 series II (which I need) so I am a little nervous about availability in the future for my 10As.

What is your question about speaker replacement.

PS... Polk is VERY helpful. Call them.

I've had these on my watch list for the last couple days actually...not that I'm interested in buying them. My watch list has like three pages of vintage Polks on it though...lol

Guess it's worth it to someone. There's a bid on them now.

Doesn't seem like that bad of a price...I've seen some on ebay with similar shipping charges. That is a bit on the high side though...

LC, There are quite a few places that can rebuild your Bose drivers or match them up pretty closely with a replacement driver which would be a cheaper alternative. Link to just one of them below:

LCruiser- the two pairs of 10s that I can purchase locally are in good shape as is. I'm more interested in playing around with them; e.g., upgrading the crossovers, drivers, etc. I'll take your suggestion and speak to the people at Polk. Thanks.

Hi Russ, as far as I know...replacing the silver dome tweeters with Polk's replacement model RDO194 (I think) is the most common upgrade, if you have the Peerless tweeters, keep em. The XO upgrade involves replacing capacitors etc. which I haven't done yet, but is highly recommended by most people here. If the price is reasonable on the 10's I'd go for it. It would take a LOT of $$$ to get the same sound quality if buying new speakers. If you order new tweeters from Polk, tell them you're a CP member to get a nice discount!:)

Well I guess these were worth it to someone...had 3 bids. Sold for 130 bucks, plus 150 shipping. I suppose the high bidder could have been local to the seller though too of course.

A total of $280 of a set of 10's is crazy. I guess the buyer really wanted a set.

    Did anybody read the listing?

The seller said the shipping price was an estimate. And the buyer would only pay ACTUAL shipping. With the receipt for shipping included...

So it may not have been that much.....
