    two: good, and bad.

Maybe said by Duke Ellington, maybe someone else; true enough, though.

I would guess that, 'Apocalyptica', would fall under Symphonic metal, but WHAT would Hayseed Dixie fall under? Metallic bluesgrass?:confused::D

I have them filed under Metal - Bluegrass. ;)
I put the main genre first, then the subgenre, to make it easier to find when scrolling by Genre.

The list was titled "Primary heavy metal subgenres " and "Cross-genre terms within heavy metal" so I'm assuming there may also be "Secondary" sub genres.

Wait a minute-Progressive is in the list. Yeah the other two would qualify as 'Cross Genre'.

Its interesting, that when a certain kind of music is hot, it generally doesn't fit a defined Genre as well as it does after the era.

What it really comes down to though is that the 'genre' is a guideline. It's really how the end listener categorizes music that matters most. I re 'Genre' almost everything to what makes sense to me. My guess is that is what a lot of others do, and then with the proliferation of music sharing, the tags just follow and get out into the mainstream (maybe).

It would be interesting to see how a band would categorize thier own music if they were to put the Genre on the CD Cover. You definately don't see that many 'Genre's' at a music store.

Here's one genre that will keep moving on ya. The Oldies.
To me it always meant stuff from the 50's generally. Chubby Checkers, Haley and the Comets, etc type stuff. You know when the world was Black & White ;):p

Obviously it wasn't called Oldies in its time-probably Rock and Roll. Although in more recent years, I've been hearing Cyndi Lauper and Led Zepplin on Oldies stations.
When I was listing to Metal in High School, or even Rap of the day, it was what it was. Now its called Old Skool metal or rap. Well Ok, some it was called Skin head metal Some was called Hair Band metal, bubble gum or Poser (shouldn't even be allowed to have metal in the name)
I guess eventually even Metallica and Slayer will be getting played on Oldies 98.. I think XM had it appropriately named the Boneyard for Old Skool metal though.

Viking Metal? Seriously? Just HOW FAR does this rabbit hole go?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Totally agree. Most recorded music is, let's face it, bad; all this talk of genres is the marketing dept's way of persuading people to buy bad music. E.g. if it's metal, I like it.

Speaking of metal, how did Pat Boone Metal get left off the list?

Would you consider "Jesus Built My Hotrod" to be Gospel? If so, consider this jew baptized.
