Ya know... sometimes things happen to us that was so totally unexpected that when all is said an done you still can't believe it.
I have a direct report who is a CW4 in the Guard and sometimes over the past couple years the special missions, 2 week drill and even weekend duties would take its toll on our engineering staff. In his absence it has been tough to pick up the slack and keep the projects rolling. When 1 man is away the rest has to kick in alot of extra hours and sometimes it would just piss us off but we managed keep things on track with positive attitudes.
Well to my surprise our CW4's Commander showed up at our switch and presented me with a letter of recognician and appreciation from DOD for those tenuous times.
Tell me we don't have the BEST DAMN MILITARY in the WORLD!
