Anybody know if it is possible to buy two Onkyo M-282's and wire one to each Monitor 10? Not sure that it is, but it would be great.

I'm trying to get more like 200wpc+ to each monitor.

What you are talking about if very possible, but not sure if you only wired up one set of speakers if it would output 200W to one channel or if it would still only send 100W since it is a 2 channel amp. Why not just buy an amp that will output 200W per channel at 8 ohms? Emotiva makes a 2 channel amp that puts out 250W per channel at 8 ohms...link http://emotiva.com/xpa2.shtm granted it is $800 and the 2 Onks would be about half that ($400ish) but not sure if it will do what you want it to do. I'm sure there are other options out there besides Emo, such as Adcom but they can be pretty spendy too. I'm not an expert when it comes to amps since I am still looking for one for my setup, but luckily there are plenty of people here who are and will have better advice for you I'm sure.

It is not possible. The M-282 is not bridgeable.
However it is a good inexpensive amp and can handle 6 ohms I think.
You can find them for ~$100 if you look hard.

As far as I know, the Monitor 10's only have a single set of binding posts, so it's not possible. Even if it were, it wouldn't be the same as sending 200 watts to each speaker. When the woofers were drawing anywhere near 100 watts, the tweeter would only need 10 watts or less.

One thing I am definitely sold on from what I've heard, is the quality of Onkyo. I have heard nothing but good things about the sound of Onks and Denons (leaning toward the Onks for price though). And from my car stereo days, I have heard some HI-WATT amps that are very loud, but sound like ****. I don't want to go that route. Are the Emos or the Adcoms up there for SQ? I really like pure sound, more than I like loud, I just want both.

I also have a soft spot for Onkyo and buy them whenever possible. The 806 I bought was a no brainer as far as I was concerned, for what it does and what I paid for it it was a steal. It has yet to dissapoint me. I don't have an Emo or an Adcom but as far SQ they are supposed to be a few of the best around, I myself am researching an Emotiva amp to run my system.

Onkyo has made some fantastic power amps down through the years. The M-282 is not one of them.

It may be inexpensive. It may fit your budget. It may be a lot of things, but good? That is questionable.

I would buy some used NAD amps off of Audiogon, they are bridgeable and will do what you want.

As usual I agree with GG, this Onk you are looking at is a distant cousin of Onkyo's glory days with seperates.

?? Is this post of yours in regards to me?? I don't claim to be an expert in any of my posts, and if you read my original post I stated that I wasn't an expert on amps and that other people here would probably have better information for him on this matter.

What you are talking about is very possible,

A speaker that can't be bi-amped, and an amp that can't be bridged. You have a technique that makes this very possible? I'm all ears.

Didn't realize that the M10's only had one set of binding posts and thusly were obviously not Bi-Ampable. Like I said I am not an expert, just doing the best I can, maybe someday I can be as smart as you George, but hopefully a little more tactfull, no offense. :-)

    W23,

Your doing fine. There is a "Dirty Dozen" here that fail to remember that a lot of people do not have their vast knowledge of audio. A large post count does not confer Godship as some here believe.

So ask your questions without reservation and ignore the tactless responses.

    wuta,

You post incorrect information to another new guy clearly telling him he can in fact do something not possible and then you do not like it when a much more knowledgeable person corrects and gives you some good advice to boot.

As you have repeatedly said, you are not an expert, this however, is the advanced 2ch technical section of the forum, you might find the beginner forum more applicable to your needs. In any event you should get your learn on about things.

I'm not saying I was correct, I realize I was incorrect and have no problem with being "corrected". It was the lack of tact and the way he did it, that I minded. But whatever, get over it right? As for his "good advice" he gave me I'm assuming you are talking about this little gem....

It may be inexpensive. It may fit your budget. It may be a lot of things, but good? That is questionable.

We don't all have thousands of dollars to spend on HT equip. as much as I'd like to be able to go out and buy an Emotiva XPA-5 for a measly $800 I just don't have that kind of cash lying around, and if a $200 amp from Onkyo does what I want it to do, who is he to say it is a bad amp because it doesn't cost thousands of dollars or put out a million watts. I have done my research on this amp because it was one I was thinking about buying a few months back and have read many reviews for it, believe it or not a vast majority of them are very good reviews and most said that it seemed to put out alot more power than the specs. would indicate. As for the beginner section being more suited for my needs, I'll try to keep that in mind, and maybe some day I can come back to the big boy section of the forums. I'm sure in your 6,400 posts you have never given bad/incorrect advice, but obviously I was not so lucky. I am not going to go back and forth with this because even my Newbie a$$ knows that witty little back and forths like this are not allowed on this forum. At the same time it is pretty lame to be "bullying" people in an online forum, but to each his own I guess. I apoligize to Wald0 for giving him some bad/incorrect information and meant no disrespect to George or RT1 and their vastly superior knowledge base. Now if you'll excuse me I need to go find my water wings so I can head over to the kiddie pool, oh and Gordon you are more than welcome to join me since you obviously don't belong here either, lol and thanks for trying to have my back....

The real point is, defer techie stuff to those who know. Wild guesses
are at best useless, at worst could be taken as good info.
What if someone wasted $200 on something that wouldn't work?
Or blew up equipment? I'd take a blunt but correct GG over
a polite but dead wrong response.
Wald0, sorry for crapping on your thread. Watch the Polk flea market
and local Craigslist for that big brute power amp. They are out there
    if you do your homework.

IMO you would be better off going with a used Rotel or Adom before the Onkyo. Adcom 545 or Rotel RB880, etc.

I apppreciate the info. but I am not buying the 282. It was one of the ones I was looking at when I first started shopping for an amp, so I was looking up reviews and what not on it. I plan on buying an used Emotiva SPA-5, or possibly a used Adcom or used Rotel. I think I may just save my pennies and buy a new Emo or Adcom in 6 months to a years time. Sorry for the confusion.

How about ditching the two amp idea. There's a Nad 272 for 5 bones, not bad ,one could certainly do worse.
