I've been having some trouble picking out surround and rear speakers. I have 2 monitor 60's and a CS2 Center speaker as well as the PS10 sub (small but it was cheap) I was set on getting monitor 40's but i saw them in store and they are pretty much monsters and i couldnt see having 4 of those huge things in my living room. I know its good to have matching speakers but for the surround and rear speakers really matter? Can i get other polk audio series speakers and it wouldnt be an issue? Anyone have anyideas or suggestions. Thanks

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, I JUST GOT A PAIR OF MONITOR 50'S FOR MY FRONTS AND A CS1 CENTER. NOW I AM REPLACING A BOSE CUBE SYSTEM THAT IS 16 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD VELODYNE SUB. NOW I NEED TO GET SURROUNDS AND I AM AT A LOSS OF WHAT TO GET. SOMETHING IN THE TSi SERIES LIKE THE 100'S OR MORE LIKELY THE OWM3 IN BLACK. ALSO CAN I MOUNT THEM AT ABOUT 48-60 INCHES AND JUST POINT THEM DOWN. ANY HELP IS GREAT!

I have the 40's as my surround speakers and I agree they are monsters, but they do a very good job. Why are you chosing to go 7.1? You don't need 4 of them to get good surround sound, I only have 2 and I get very good results. I am using a 5.1 setup right now due to limited space, and IMO a well setup/placed 5.1 will outperform a poorly placed, cramed together 7.1. I would try to stick with all Momitors, but I'm sure you could get something different if you had to. I'm sure the real experts will have a suggestion for you. Have you thought about the Monitor 30's? They are much smaller than the 40's, and also don't have the "abilities" of the 40's. With 4 of them though you may get pretty good results. Welcome to Club Polk if you haven't already been properly welcomed.

Another possibility would be like dk said to use the TSi series for your surrounds since the TSi's are a newer version of the Monitor series and should be very accoustically similar. Unfortunately the TSi's are pretty much the same size as the Monitors, so like I said in my previous post, if you don't need 7.1 I would get 2 40's and call it good. If you have the room for a 7.1 I would go with 4 30's and you should be good to go. The real experts may have a better option for you, but IMO this would be the best solution to your problem.

Hey i just saw a pair of monitour 30's would they be too big for surrounds for a 5.1 system. And could i mount them slightly behind me but facing at 90 degrees or mount them directly behind me about 6 or 8 feet and have them directly facing the tv and center channel about 20-25 feet away.

I don't think the 30's are wall mountable, I know the 40's are not. You may be able to put them on stands or fashion some shelves to put them on. They are def. not too big for surrounds in a 5.1, depending on what the rest of your speakers are. Like I said I have 40's for my surrounds but I have Monitor 70's as my front channels. As for placement and mounting locations check here....http://www.thx.com/home/setup/speakers/51.html
