I just got the Emotiva UPA 7 and I 'm running the the low end of my Rti 10's with it and I have an Onkyo 805 running the highs and mids. The speakers just came to life, good bass and smooth mids and highs. I plan on getting the XPA 3 to run the lows and let the UPA 7 to do the mids and highs.
Well, technically the Polk Tech is correct, but sonically bi-amping with different amps may not be the best solution. The Onkyo obviously sounds different than the Emotiva, so your speakers may be suffering from an acute case of "sonic schizophrenia."
For the sake of experimentation, release the 10's from the Onkyo and tell us how it sounds powered exclusively by the Emo.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Yeah, I'd agree that you should try with the Emo only and see how it sounds. It's one thing to bi-amp with matching amps... but quite another to amp highs/mids with a receiver's amp section with a paltry damping factor of 60, then amp your lows with a standalone amp with a damping factor of over 200.Equipment list:
Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

It did sound odd to me after that so I did hook them up to the UPA 7 only and it was better.Yep ,you guys were right it sounded like crap. I sent the UPA 7 back and got a XPA 2 and a XPA 3 . I released the poor RTi 10's from their agony .Right now I have them hooked straight up to the the XPA 3 and they are happy. When I get the XPA 2 on Fri they should real open up . I obviously didn't fullly understand the gain issues involved and I appreciate your advice. Thanks for welcoming me. I will let you know how the XPA 2 does with the 10's and the SDA 2's.Main theater : Pan 54 G10, Onkyo 805, UPA 7, Carver TFM 45, Sony BDP 350, Polk SDA 2 s, Polk CSi A6, Polk RTi4 (X 4 ), Velo CHT 10 (X 2), APC H15.
