Question about RM6750 Subwoofer

I have this subwoofer hooked up to a sony str-dg820 through the #1 option as detailed in the instructions that come with the RM6750 setup. When I run the test tone for the subwoofer the sound is somewhat thin and "rolling". Is this normal for this "budget" subwoofer, or do I have a defective sub?

what are your settings on for the sub on the amp side?Life without music would♭

I have the front speakers set to small and the sub crossover set at 120 hz.

thats not gonna matter when you run the test tones. What are the levels on those?Life without music would♭

The only level I think I can change on the test tone is the volume. As volume increases the sound gets a little fuller, but the "rolling" becomes more pronounced.

you should have levels to turn your fronts, center, surrounds and sub levels up and down. Not the volume. Check in your settings.
Also since you have sat speakers i would set your XO to 80HZLife without music would♭ -

The subwoofer level is set at 0 db.
With music the sub sounds fine. With movies it seems to be a little thin with the "rolling" effect at times. The only comparison I have is with an older sony subwoofer that is smaller, but seemed to put out a more consistent sound. I didn't know if this is how the polk subwoofer is supposed to sound or not. Thanks to both of you for your help so far.
