Hey all has anyone seen any reviews or heard anything good about the new mid-priced Marantz Blu-Ray player?
It doesnt have profile 2.0 which is completley fine to me.
It doesnt have 7.1 analog outs with built in decoders. Which again is fine since all i need is for it to bitstream.
But i wonder how well it does with video quality? Any owners?

And it would also be cool if it had a decent analog section. Not sure what dac it uses, but Marantz makes good players so i wonder if any good audio quality has rubbed off onto this player to make it not only a good Blu-Ray, but a decent CD player as well.....hmmm
If not thet also released this new CD player, the Marantz CD5003 which has alot of trickled down features and build quality seen in its reference line. The price is right, but i wonder if its worth it if the analog quality on the Blu-ray sucks...

Just checked out this CD player, and it looks totally cool. Wonder if it sounds as cool as it looks.
Think I'm getting ready to sell my HK-3480 and get the new 3490. Also will sell my Denon 2800 and get a new CD player (that will be the tricky part with so many options in the ~$250 range)
This is a great hobby;):D:):cool::p -

Just curious, why would you want a 'new' blu ray player that lacks pretty much all the new standard features that are on pretty much all the new 2009 models from Oppo, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony, Samsung that are the same price or some even cheaper than the Marantz that perform better. Even the 2008 Panasonic DMP-BD55 and Panasonic DMP-BD50 have everything you would ever need. All the companies I mentioned above are selling most their BD players for 2009 in the $299-$699 price range which I think is a bargain with all the features jam packed into them.
I'd think you should look into 7.1 as there are some movies filmed in it already and Hollywood studios and production companies have said they will start making more movies in 7.1 and all movies in the near future will be made with 7.1. -

Because i will not be using any of those features....
i could care less about 2.0 profile since im not an extra feature kind of guy..
i dont need internal decoding since i'll just be using bitstream capabilities...
alot of those models you mentioned have many many issues...
The main reason i was looking into the marantz is because of its reputation of quality. I was hoping it implemeneted a higher quality dac so i could use it as a CD player. And the MSRP is expensive but you can find them for around $400ish and if the player ended up being an excellent marantz product than that is not so much to ask.
The thing is i found out it is some re-badged generic blu-ray. This makes it WAY over priced....
Anyway i decided to keep my PS3 for now. The new Oppo coming out looks to be pretty nice though, so i may give that some thought.Pro-ject RM-9.1 w/ Grado Sonata 1 -> USP-1 -> RPA-1 -> Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grands -

Unfortunately that's the case with a lot of the Blu-ray players that are around. The Onkyo Blu-ray player, for instance, is internally just a generic Blu-ray player, with some slightly upgraded features and a roughly 600 dollar price tag.
Marantz does have a history of making some high quality products though. I'm going to be purchasing a dedicated CD player later in the year, and I'm leaning towards the Marantz SA-8003 SACD player. I've never used a Marantz product before, but have always heard great things about them. The nirvana inducer-

yeah i hate it when the companies cheap out on us...
the SA8003 is a great player. Although if your wanting to spend that much i think you should consider something like this...

That's not a bad price. I've been looking at some of the Reference Marantz players too...They're looking pretty damn nice. One like that wouldn't be bad. I'm not looking to get one til later on this year, otherwise I'd consider that one.
I've also been tossing around the Sony SCD-XA5400ES(why are Sony's model numbers always so long?...lol)
It has balanced XLR out's, which are a big plus, because the Adcom GFP-750 pre and GFA-555SE amp that I'm planning on getting eventually both have balanced inputs. The Marantz 8003 doesn't have balanced outs, which is a bit of a drawback. It'll do multi-channel SACD over HDMI, which would be a big advantage too. I'm thinking I might get this Sony and use it in the 2 ch. for a while, and when I upgrade my 2 ch. CDP, I'll move the Sony to the HT system. I'm planning on getting a dedicated multi-channel SACD player for the HT system eventually anyway, and having one that will do 7.1 DSD over HDMI would be a great feature.
