Choosing the right speakers to match
Hello,
I am brand new to Polk Home Audio and I was looking for some advice. I am in the building stages of a new house and want to have a nice/economical HT. As of right now I have a 42inch Samsung Plasma, Sanyo HT projector, 120inch motorized drop down Accuscreen, Wii, BluRay, CS1 Center Channel and (for the time being) Pioneer 818VSk. I say for the time being because I got it for Christmas, plugged it in, it read AMP ERR turned off and never turned back on.
I have been reading for days about all the speakers Polk has to offer and what I should look for. Before I buy I wanted to do one last check to get some feedback.
I like the Monitor series, seems to be pretty middle of the road, good for both music and movies (and budget). I would prefer in wall to hide everything being that it is my living room and I'm a grown up now (at least that's what my wife tells me).
How does this sound:
RC85i Front ($199.00 pair)
RC65i Rear ($169.00 pair)
or
Monitor 40's Front & Rear (199.00 pair)
Both with the PSW111 Sub
Also, from what I have read (and experienced) Pioneer is not the best brand to go with. Any advice on a receiver for this system? Can I get a decent receiver for $250-350?
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Chris

Well...of the choices you named, pretty much any of those speakers would be a good match to the CS1 center. Keep in mind though, at 16"high, 7"wide and 12"deep, the Monitor 40 is a fairly good sized speaker. It sounds like speaker size is somewhat of an issue for you, and the Monitor 40 might not workout as well as the in walls as far as that goes. All of those speakers are voice matched to the Monitor series though, so they'd all go well with the CS1.
As far as the receiver goes...was the Pioneer a new item? If so it should be covered by a warranty of some kind...sounds like something went wrong that shouldn't have. There are quite a few Pioneer users around here, so one of them might be able to help you with it.
If not though, the Onkyo TX-SR606 is a nice entry level receiver that fits into that price range. Can be had for about 300-350 usually. That's what I have...and I love it.
