Stupid TT

I am about ready to throw my turntable out the window. I can not get it to sound right. I think it is the cartridge alignment that is the root of my problems. I find the stealthy angles of the Ortofon 2M Red hard to line up with the provided protractor and any other protractors are not any better. Ozzy21236 (thanks Russ) loaned me his mirrored protractor but my TT does not seem to have enough overhang or adjustment to let the stylus get to where it should. I could be doing it wrong but I think I have the protractor set up right.
Any suggestions? Or local Polkies that could lend a hand.
Thanks,
Scott

I have been having a sibilence(sp) issue and the stealthy shape of the 2M Red makes it hard (for me) to align the cartridge. I may be over thinking this issue but I have never been able to get it right. This issue has caused me to start thinking about the SACD route VS. the Vinyl route.
So my options are proper alignment, new cartridge or sell the TT and associated gear and go with a SACD player.

Is it on every album? I bought one brand new recently, sibelant as hell the first couple times I played it, but it calmed down a bit after that.
Does it happen across the entire side of the album, or is it worse towards the inner grooves? If it gets worse towards the middle of the album, maybe try putting your anti skate weight back on.
Do you have a stylus force gauge? I got one recently and found out I was over .7 g off on the tracking force. The Debut's force dial on the end of the tonearm is a joke.
I can swing by some time if you'd like.Wristwatch--->Crisco -

Ben,
The inner grooves are worse. Wow your force dial was .7 g off. That may be the problem I am having also. I have never dialed it up more than the indicated 2.0 g.
I will put the anti-skate back on and give it a spin.
I would love to borrow your force guage. I may be in your neck of the woods tomorrow. I have to go to HD and Cockeysville Road.

Not enough overhang adjustment? My guess is you are using the wrong protractor for your tonearm length. Check out the Vinyl engine website and download the protractor for the tonearm you have.
