Just for fun I was comparing my modified Altec A7-500's against the modified 1A's I've been working on and mentioned in prior threads - both are good but different, the SDA's have greater bottom and top end whilst the A7's have better midrange projection and attack. I think it's a case of liking a coffee one day then liking a cup of tea the next. The one great thing I noticed bar the efficiency was that the sounstage of the SDA's seemed to be choreographed whilst the A7's was spontaneous. Another way would be saying that the SDA's were like a medium sized 6 cylinder family car whilst the A7's were like a big block V8 sportser. I just like how both are good at making music but present it in different ways. That why no loudspeaker is perfect as mood factors must play some part in portraying what the muscian indented.
Good work to the people of Altec and Polk Audio, does anyone else have any personal views on why they like the loudspeakers they own and if different to SDA's express why.
