Need sub advice

Getting a new system and I need some advice on the sub.

Receiver: Denon AVR4308ci
Fronts: LSi9
Center: LSiC
Rear: LSiFX
Amp: eventually get an Emotiva xpa-5

I'm buying my system from onecall who is offering a free PSW10 but I don't think this will match well with my system. Should I even try this sub temporarily or should I just order another at the same time?

budget $400

I saw where J&R has the PSW1000 for $499 right now. Should I spend the extra money and go with that sub or is there a better match for me under $400?

Well ifs free take it and sell it. For $500 I would be looking else where. Try eD, HSU, Outlaw, SVS and yes even Epik. The key to a good sub is knowing your room size and what it will be used for beit movies, music or both. A lot of the cheap subs can sound ok for movies but if you need some help from your sub for music then you have some homework to do, might be a new sub or upgrading your mains.

For me I use my mains for music without a sub.
Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

    Analog: Marantz TT-15S1 MBS Glider SL| Wright WPP100C Amperex BB 6er5 and 7316 & WPM-100 SUT
    Digital: Mac mini 2.3GHz dual-core i5 8g RAM 1.5 TB HDD Music Server Amarra (memory play) - USB - W4S DAC 2
Cables: Mits S3 IC and Spk cables| PS Audio PCs

Well since it's free use it until you save up enough money to get something on par with the lsi series. I'm think if you want to keep it all Polk then try their new micropro series subs. Also look at HSU and SVS two great online companies with great subs.

Thats a 2000cf room assuming 8' ceiling. The PSW10 is rated down to 35hz, your mains are rated down to 38hz.

Since you are mosty interested in Movies I would try the little 10"er near field and see how you like it but don't expect much punch with 50watts.

If you want to feel the impact of movie's LFE you could look at these in your price range.

$100-$150 over your budget but get you sub 20hz

All of the subs mentioned by the others are great choices. I would take a look at the Polk DSW Pro 400 and 500 also. You can pick up the 400 for around $400 and the 500 for around $500. Since you will be using this mostly for home theater, I would recommend the 500 over the 400, even though both are quite good.

    First, awesome setup.

Second, I can tell you that PolkAudio recommends matching the DSW MicroPRO line to the LSi series, saying, "DSW MicroPRO subwoofers are the perfect addition to LSi Series speakers." The DSW MicroPRO 1000 is $425.29 at Amazon. You will probably pay at least twice that for the DSW MicroPRO 2000 unless you're are buying it out of the back of a van.

If you want to go PSW because of the deal at J&R, then consider that, right now, Amazon has the PSW1000 for $459--even better than J&R. Amazon, and the fulfilling dealer (Wholesale AV) are both authorized PolkAudio dealers.

I agree with Dawgfish that the DSW PRO 500 may be the sweet spot in the whole line for home theater. I have the DSW PRO 400 because I got a deal. I have no complaints, but at list or near-list prices, I believe the DSW PRO 500 is worth the little extra cash.

Third, the AVR4308ci is a beast, making the Emotiva power amp more like a sweet addition than a necessity, which is why I'm sure it's on the back burner right now. Since you already have a pretty robust receiver, you might just use it to run the surrounds and use an Emotiva XPA-3 (rather than the XPA-5) for the center and fronts. Emotiva has a very good sale right now on the XPA-3--it's going for $499 with $25 shipping, well off the usual price of $649 and full-price shipping.

By the way, I believe the free subwoofer offer was originally a PolkAudio promotion. Before the beginning of the year, I saw it at all the authorized dealers' sites I frequent--Amazon, Crutchfield, J&R, and so on. I'm only seeing it at OneCall now. If you're spending money at OneCall, then you would be crazy not to take the free sub, even if you eBayed it or donated it to a school, because it even SHIPS free.

    Congratulations on an awesome rig.
