Yamaha CDX-1100 CD Player problems..

just picked up one of these monsters and of course there are some issues 
it started with it just not being able to do the random play but now its having problems with just playing a disc. i opened it up and (forgive the extreme techiness of some terms) when the disc goes in you can see the floating thingie above the disc start and stop and spin and stop etc...while its doing this there is also like a grinding sound, its not hurting the discs any though.
any ideas?
