Happy New Year All!!!
I will be auditioning a turntable tomorrow (Empire 698), and the price will probably approach $600 or more...
I would prefer to use a check cash advance (check basically) from my Fidelity credit card to make the purchase. There would be no interest accrued until Oct '09, and I cannot withdraw more than $500 from my ATM per day.
Do others here simply pay cash?
This seller does not use paypal...

Why not borrow $2000 and do what you want?

Unless it is modified/updated with a nice arm or cartridge, let him know that one didn't sell for less than $500 last week in Oregon.

In that price range you may want to entertain the thought of getting something like this.

I went with a cheaper TT, and I regret it:(Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

FWIW this is the link to the actual turntable:

Empire made a great turntable back in the day. I think that some of the more modern offerings today have nice potential too and deserve a look. Music Hall, Pro-Ject, Rega, Nottingham, Michell, Sota, VPI all make great gear with a more modern approach.
I still believe that tweaking a turntable is the most difficult/rewarding/frustrating/exciting/maddening audio project you can undertake.
Good luck in your search.....don't miss this sight for lots of help.http://www.vinylengine.com/
