Just out of curiosity, how dod you come to arrive at placing them all up front? I have mine boxing me in 2 in the front 2 to the rear at the sides - mostly due to room issues. Have you tried them in another configuration?

With all the subs you have owned could you put them in order performance wise 1-5 and why you put them in that order.

    Thanks

Excellent idea, it may help some forum members here when buying subs. He's been through allot of the big boy subs. Not sure if he's had any SVS subs in there or not.

theres a lot of ppl there using the ep2500 to drive their subs: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/EP2500.aspx

    they are very resonably priced...

a good sub with bad placement can make it sound bad...so i dont know how even to start rating comparing what i had...the few of them i had were go gigantic, i believe if i can sqeeze them between my mains, they would sound as good.

there few things i learnt from this all:
-there is no replacement for displacement, you want bass, you got to have enough subwoofer/surface area to move the air
-best way to know if you like a sub, take it home and try it out with your material/soundtrack, placement in your listening area and att he volume level you like. if you like it...keep it or else return it. Reviews are just reviews, they sound good in their room, maybe not yours.

    not tried svs..

the only practical place i can put the subs is the frontstage or behind the couch. i have 2 doorway in the backwall corner so i'm limited interms of placement. i did try several impractical placements, they did not give me the same impact as lining up the subs in a row. the line array seems to intensify the bass effect...
i had setup the 4 subs initially behind the couch - the intense bass assault from the back was NOT fun!

with them in the frontstage, they reinforce the soundstage from the LCR and creates a "you are there" feel.

Now that would be cool. Kinda like an in-wall sub. Put the 4 subs upstairs, cut holes in the floor/ceiling. Install some grates like they have in older homes that used to get heated by way of wood burning stoves (you know some decorative iron-but immune to resonance). ;)

I don't know if its true or not, but I read somewhere that although a sub is generally non-directional (below ~100Hz), distance is also a factor in performance. Something about the low frequency waveform needs distance (time) to work its magic, and if its too close to the listening position, its not going to work right.

Of course I can certainly see your point there being blasted in the back would be like a massaging couch-too distracting-I've experienced the distraction with just one sub behind the couch.

placing the subs in the frontstage improved the soundstage...i dont know, maybe its easier for Audyssey to figure out how to unite all the speakers or someting...
