hey i am currently using an Onkyo Ipod dock to listen to tunes thru my AVR, my GF likes this because i run the display thru my TV and always have the music info viewable

Problem here is i only have a 4 gig ipod and have run out of space quickly and have not even come close to having my full collection on there

I have recently become interested in purchasing the Squeezebox but i need to know if i can get the display to show up on my TV like i do with the Onkyo dock, i read the squeezebox has multiple display "patterns" available thru its receiver and i think it would be pretty neat to have them on my TV while the music was playing

^ why not get the appleTV? if you have an ipod, you use itunes, and the appleTV setup is pretty freakin sweet. It has built in storage and also allows you to stream music. Plus it has the on screen info you want plus album artwork :) Just a suggestion.

The squeeze box is a great choice for those that dont have to run all their stuff through itunes, plus it supports pretty much all music formats.

I'll have to look into that SB video output--I never looked at my SB Duet. Hmm, that would be cool, of course the remote has all the info right there, but still would be cool in a party or something.

I stream my PC stored collection through my Xbox360 (on my HT rig). You could also hook up a cheap PC as a vid input to you HT for strictly music. Or there are a lot of Media extenders on the market for stuff like that. The you could use whatever interface you wanted that was avail on the PC and no worries about having the proper transcoding codecs in place.

just a couple quick suggestions, I'm passing out now-off to bed...

The Squeezebox doesn't have a video output to do what you want to do. You either use its screen or the screen on the remote for the Duet/controller. Apple TV does have a really nice interface (imo). But if you already have a game console then you can probably do everything you want to do without buying any new hardware.

i have a PS3 and it in no way compares to how the apple TV runs. Of course apple TV is really only a plus if you use itunes so it can be limiting.

I have a Squezebox Duet and I love it. Yes it does not have a video out but you do have a display on the remote and it is very easy to use. They only downfall is if you want to search for new music to put in your play list you need to go to a computer.
