Those 70's are a good match for HK. I used an HK635 to power my 70's- Sweet!

I have the Monitor 60s running off an HK3490, and it is perfect. I have the Monitor 70s in a larger room running off an Outlaw RR2150. From what I have read, the Outlaw is just a bit better receiver, but at reasonable listening volumes and half the price the HK3490 should sound excellent together with your Monitor 70s.Living Room system: 52"HDTV, 4 Mon.70s, Epik Valor, Outlaw RR2150
Bedroom System: 2 Mon.60s,Velo VRP1200, HK3490 -
you think I could crank them to there full potential with out distortion or would I need somthing bigger also do you guy's think i'm under powered now?

If my goal was to knock my socks off with volume, then I wouldn't even consider Monitor series. I'm 51 years old and done enough damage already to my ears. I go for quality over quantity, although I still play tunes loud enough to dance to.Living Room system: 52"HDTV, 4 Mon.70s, Epik Valor, Outlaw RR2150

just not sure if I can justify another reciever I was reading on here you shouldn't have 1000 dollar speakers matched to a 230 dollar amp any better sound quality with the HK?
I paid 398 for my pair i think i got a good deal with the 5 yr warr thats only $80 a year -
*plug* *plug* You could always buy the NAD I'm selling in the flea market. *plug* *plug*
If you don't want to lose surround sound, maybe you should grab an Onkyo AVR. I was actually pretty surprised when I started looking for an AVR for myself at the disparity between Yamaha, Sony, and Pioneer's budget AVRs stated per-channel power ratings (110-130) and their actual all channels driven numbers (30-39w) in Home Theater Mag, Sound and Vision, and other mags that do measurements. The Onkyo 606 claims 90wpc and delivered ~ 75-80, which puts it heads and shoulders above the rest of the budget AVR crowd.
Harman also accurately states their ratings, but they get a big thumbs down from me for their lousy menus and interfaces. YMMV and there are plenty of HK fanboys here (and the 34xx won't have that problem as a 2CH receiver), but if you're looking to get the most power for the least bucks the Onkyo measures well.Currently listening to:
Marantz SR5004
Sony BDP-S370
Apple TV V2
Audio Technica AT-LP120
Mirage CMD-5 x 5
Bic H-100 -

Wow...I didn't know that about the 606. That makes me like my 606 even more. I always just assumed I was only really getting like 30-40 watts per channel.
I don't think that Sony AVR has pre-outs, so if you're looking for more power the only way to go really is with a new AVR. Make sure that you get one that has pre-outs though, the desire for more power most likely won't end at that AVR...lol
That's the one drawback to my Onk' 606...No pre-outs...which is a big drawback. I'm kinda kicking myself now for not researching it more ahead of time...but hindisights always 20/20 as the saying goes. The nirvana inducer-

too late guys already bought the hk3490 and at less then half volume its louder then max on the sony and sounds way better has much less THD too.
Been listening to Alice in Chains unplugged and sounds awsome, now I just need a better source instead of mp3 and optical or hdmi for cable instead of a crappy Y cable.
I think this is a killer system for the price hk3490 $350, M70's $398, psw10 $150.
so for $898 CAN or $63.00U US. what do you guys think any other systems for this price point in a 2ch config for the price an quality. -
Well, sounds like you're happy with what you bought. That's the important thing. Does that receiver have pre-amp outputs? Those are nice to have if you plan on expanding/upgrading your system over time. The nirvana inducer-

Enjoy the HK, you don't need more power for that series.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
