Getting music off iPod

So, a good family friend gave me a 32GB iPod Touch for Christmas (yikes! I know, what a present! :D ). However, he opened it up, charged it up, and loaded a few things on it for me before giving it to me. There's a bit of music on it I wanna keep, as well as the new Batman movie. How in the world can I sync it to my computer to my stuff to it but without losing the stuff already on it? I guess the real question is, how can I get its current contents onto my computer? I thought about using it as a drive to get the info off, but apparently you can't view an iPod touch as an external drive.

Any ideas? They'd be great appreciated!

Simple question. If you had a cool million bucks, what would you do with it?

Well, first off I would make a backup just in case anything gets screwed up. Here are 2 links for you to try out.....I have not tried it as my kids are at their inlaws with their ipods so proceed with caution. Hope this works for ya.:D

I was under the impression that when you connect an IPod and sync it to the computer, anything new on the IPod gets transfered to the computer and anything new on the computer gets transferred to the IPod. So I wouldn't think you'd lose anything by doing a sync. But I could be wrong.

I think if Itunes thinks the Ipod is new to it, it will delete everything on it and replace it with everything in Itunes. YMMV

Apple may have changed some things in the new updated version of Itunes, but before you used to be able to assign two pcs per Ipod. So in my case I would use my work laptop and home desktop without probs. Now that may have changed, not sure. Im sure theres some kind of software that allows this. I would search google for some underground site, I'm sure theres some awesome forums out there with tricks/hacks for this thing. I have had an 8 gig Itouch in the case for about 4 months now unopened. Have 3 ipods now, 1 U2 Spec. Edition sealed/unopened.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong - when you try to sync with a new PC, it basically tells you it will delete any existing data first. Ostensibly to keep people from using iPods to pirate music and movies.

There are ways to copy music off of an iPod onto your computer - you can Google, but essentially you just mount the iPod as a drive and copy the files manually - but only if they're just MP3s and not "protected" mp4's. And you'll lose the filenames and playlists. Not sure if this works with movies - I doubt it.

I hope for your sake I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the case.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
