Toslink from one receiver to another

I've moved an older receiver to the bedroom. The new one has one Toslink out. It is the MD/DAT out and it does light up the 40 foot cable but in placing it into the MD/DAT In on the older receiver I get nothing, even though I asign my 400 disc CD player to output thru the MD/DAT out. This is what I want to use for listening thoughout my house. Any suggestions here folks?

    I like ruling out things.

So does the Toslink cable work if its connect directly to the CD player in the other room.
If so it rules the cable, the receiver in the bedroom. So if it works that way then it seems to be a setting in the main receiver.

disneyjoe, I start ruling things out tomorrow too. So far my aproach has been to asign the optical out of my new receiver to send the digital signal from my living room CD player to the bedroom receiver. I'm not sure this is the way to go. Since this is strictly for whole-house background audio, I wonder if I can use the RCA outs on the CD player to connect to the living room player and use the 40 optical out to connect to the bedroom set up. Will the CD player output through bothe outs?

Yes this is the way I did it. Optical from CD changer to the main system above it. I use the RCA analog outputs to feed a receiver for whole house audio, which are RG6 cables with RCA jacks on the ends running some 40 ft or so. Works fine, no problems with me. :)

OK. Even though I have an ES SACD player set up in my main system already, I'd still prefer to run the optical out from my base model CD player (the 400 disc library player) to the main system then run RCA to the bedroom system but a 40 foot toslink is easier to run 40 feet than a set of 40 feet analog RCA cables. LOL.
I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the ideas.

What you're complaining about 2 RG6 cables.... I ran 6 RG6 cables 3 pairs to closet. Now we are only talking about the whole house system, not the rest of the cables ran up that wall.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::o

    Hi,
I tried something like that but I couldnt get the upstairs receiver to work with the toslink. Works fine with the rca outs. I guess its too long a run for the light, too weak a signal. I didnt try it with a shorter run to confirm. Too much trouble to move one receiver next to the other.
