Hello everyone,

I have been reading alot about people saying that Yamaha receivers perform badly with with Polk Rti10 speakers. Therefore i have to ask which of these two receivers ( VSX-1018TXV-K vs HTR6190B ) would perform better.

This receiver will power a pair of RTi10 speakers, Velodyne DSP-12 sub. Will be used to watch movies (HD and SD) and Music ( no Jazz , Country , little of Rock).

Thank You

Rico

You should be fine with either receiver. what comes into play is how loud will you be listening to movies/music? The more volume you play at, the harder your receiver has to work.

Most decent receivers will give you ok to good sound.. if you want exceptional sound from a receiver.. usually an external amp is require. It takes away all the strain and stress off the receiver's amps.

This was probably not the answer you were seeking, but it's what most people have come to realize. Most receivers today sound about the same... what it comes down to is features and price, usually. not always, but for the most part.

I don't think you can say a blanket statement that all Yamaha receivers sound poorly with Polk Audio speakers. Maybe that person was using a older receiver or a very lower power one.

I have three higher end Yamaha receivers and all of them perform well with my Polks from HT to SDA SRS series speakers. You need to look for the RX-V2500 series and higher not the low end stuff at best buy. They are two completely different animals. Check out ebay for a good used one and save a bundle.
Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9

I did not like the Yamaha and RTi 10 combination that I had for a while. It got better when I added an amp but not enough.

I found the Yamaha AVR capable of driving the RTi10's for HT, but IMO inadequate and very bright for 2 channel music.

I know this isn't exactly answering your question, but one thing I have to say about the 2 AVRs you question. The sound difference you get with the RTi10's will be a matter of your personnel preferences and room characteristics. There are lots of comments on how different owners find how they sound with these speakers.
While both AVRs are rated about the same for power, you are comparing an "entry" level Pioneer with an "upper" end Yamaha. The Yamaha has a lot more features than the Pioneer and I believe the Yamaha is a high current amp where as the Pioneer is not. I think the high current capabilities, although it still lacks what a separate amp could provide would serve you much better with the RTi10's.

If you could get them both in your hands and decide which one sounds better to YOU and return the other is the only way to answer that question. As far as features IMHO only buy what you need or know you will need in the near future.

I appreciate the replies , i ended up buying the Yamaha because of the 4 HDMI inputs and over factors i will set up everything tommorow and will post the results. But i am thinking of buying a separate amp for more juice but i will wait until i setup everything.

    Thank you
