I'm just chilling here playing Miles Davis. You know, if my musical taste
was strictly jazz, I can think of no better setup than tubes with a pair
of quality 2 way bookshelf speakers. I've seen and heard this setup
in a lot of better audio demo rooms, and it just sounds so right with
jazz. The floorstanders seem to lose the sound purity somehow.
I have been thinking about a pair of Rega R3's, but this makes me
reconsider that in a big way.

What's your setup?

Pc based flac to a Monica DAC( sorry, no vinyl) AE Symphonies pre-amp,
AR VT-60 amp, Hale Revelation ones.
The simple factor is the two way speakers. A good TT as the source
would be even better. It's days like this I feel like chucking all the
high-tech crap and getting back to basics. There was a bunch of my
wife's friends the other day that were amazed that I still listen to music
album by album instead of setting up playlists. The IPOD is the spawn of
Satan. Of course, most would consider the lossless flac to be pure evil
too. Do you think the Mrs. would divorce me if I went back to the wall
of vinyl?"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
I'm too young to even know how to begin spinning vinyl. Maybe once I'm outta law school and in the work force, I'll pick up that habit. I'm hoping digital will catch up to vinyl and I won't have to make that leap. Vinyl just seems like too much work.

It's all a matter of trade offs, my friend.
I've been scouring Goodwills looking for discarded treasures and cleaning vinyl for a couple of years now. I'm ready to try the PC thing myself.
Something to be said for a simple system with a pair of monitors for sure. The simpler the system, the less there is to get in the way of the music, IMO.Wristwatch--->Crisco -

I went down to check out a traded in set of Rega r3's.
Small demo stand, 50 wpc Rega integrated, Rega TT, Rega Apolloa CDP,
and the R3's. I should of brought a camera. Small, neat, good sounding.
Rosenut is a nice finish. Very high WAF. The R3's can sit 8 inches off the wall and sound good."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others.
