Anyone use ReaderWare to keep track of their collection?
I just started mine and it's a slow undertaking without a barcode scanner.
I've logged in 58 so far and that's about a quarter of my stash.
Anyone got a USB Barcode scanner I can barrow or buy?

I use "Music Collector" software. I have a barcode scanner and used it on most of the 1000+ cd's to enter it into the program.

Hummmm that looks better than this readerware I'm playing with.
Manually entering info is getting to be a PITA!
I think I'll try that instead. THANX for the idea!
I can just put CD's in the computer Cd drive and bingo!
I also wanna carry my database in my Palm...which with readerware is a big fiasco.

Hey Motzart, I forgot to mention...you might want to look at this software at albumplayer.com because it has touchscreen support, if that is useful to you.

It is. Purchased it the other day and have 200 CD's entered so far. I talked to several friends in town that also use the same software. Not perfect, but does the job quite nicely. Being a former programmer you become very critical of apps. Good luck.Michael

When I purchased it they had a special "package" price. I got the MP3 collector, Movie Collector, and Music Collector along with the barcode scanner.
Another thing I'm doing, and this will take time, is providing a link in music collector to the audiophile and the lyrics file. Here is how it works for now (unless I find a better way). (Squeezebox looks real interesting).
1. Rip cd to hard drive with EAC
2. Link ripped audio file to Music Collector
3. Hit "play" in Music Collector
4. I-tunes opens and plays the file (Music Collector is not a player)
5. Evillyrics starts automatically and downloads the lyrics (if available)
5. Copy and paste lyrics to the lyrics file in Music Collector
Of course with nearly 1,000 cd's it's going to take a looooong time to link every track and every lyric file (when available)

Yeah I think I'm gonna purchase Music Collector....they have a $5 off deal.
Already filled my 100 cd trial limit and it looks like a BOSS program!
If it don't find the cover for my CD I scan and make my own copy....POC.
I have quite a few rare ones it don't find. Classical it esp has trouble finding.
It's the best looking program I've found anywhere thus far.
Thanx Joe for recommending it!

I just took a quick look and I see some cool features but what is it about this program making it so much more useful than Winamp or WMP or whatever else people use to play/organize music.
I do like my stuff organized for sure. How is it you guys that have this use it in a way that's more useful than other apps? I'm just curious.
Thanks,

Not a problem Rich.
Winamp is just a player and you can organize MP3's but not whole CD's like Music Collector.
Also you can put CD covers with em as well as complete info such as date they were issued.....UPC #...ect...Winamp don't store such info that I know of.
I love Winamp for my MP3's been using it for YEARS!
Hope this clears things up for ya.

Thanks.
I just picked a disc at random ripped to wav w/software I use for extraction (it also labels with CDDB) and added to Winamp library.
Winamp includes all the regular stuff plus art and the year. Not UPC however.
It might be that I already have all my files neatly organized -it has taken a LONG time. If I was to rip everything over again this may prove more useful than the initial time I spent. I will keep this in mind.

But it don't catalog em for ya like MC.
Also you don't hafta rip the CD to get it in the data base.
Just insert the CD....scan it and bingo it's done.
It's all a matter pref I guess like anything else audio.

Aah you don't have to rip that's the part I must have missed. That makes sense.
