Speaker Wire

For Polk Monitor 7's, I have inexpensive 18 guage speaker wire running about 20 ft to each speaker. Would upgrading to 16 guage...or even monster cable...make any difference in the quality of the sound? The existing wire seems to power up the speakers just fine. Thanks!

Yes, better speaker wires produce better sound.

You'll see an almost universal lovefest for monoprice. I guess it depends what you like in a cable. For me some of the monoprice products don't make the grade (and I've bought a bunch). The cables are sometimes too stiff for my liking. And the cable jackets... perfect on their optical audio cables but sketchy on their HDMI cables.

I like Monster, but I agree the products are overpriced. Get them off ebay and you can normally pay closer to what they're probably worth. I love my Z1 monster cables used to drive the 2 main floorstanding speakers. But that's too much small satellites.

Go with canare 4S11 speaker cable.Great bang for the buck...Blue jeans has it for 1.05/ft but you can find it a little cheaper. You can get some quality spades or bananas for cheap too from different online places. You can find ones that dont require soldering if you want to go that route. Here are some links for you. http://www.homegrownaudio.com/spade_connectors.htm http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?products_id=218 http://bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm

Blue Jean is a great company but right now Performance Audio has Canare for a little less $$$. Buy from them with confidence and the 411S is a good entry level speaker cable that should yield some improvements.
