I found a nice deal on the receiver I've been looking at. Since I happened to be traveling to the part of the country the seller was located I asked about local pickup to save myself the shipping and paypal expenses. The seller and I agreed that we would meet today, however the seller didn't answer any of my calls. He finally called back and let me know he had already sold the receiver I had arranged to buy, but had another, more expensive, receiver available. He also mentioned that he would have more of the model I want, but since I won't be back in the area I would have to pay $49 shipping and 3% for paypal.

 I FEEL SCREWED!

rant off....

that bites.. sorry he did that to you. Sounds like he forgot he was suppose to meet you and sell you the receiver. that's what I hate about CL. there is nothing biding the sale from one person to another.. so it's all about trust and honesty. or lack thereof.

I just sold a Marantz receiver myself on CL. Took me 4 weeks to sell it. Got about 7 people interested in it.. a couple of them said they'd come take a look at it and never showed. I email them back.. and they quickly say.. "sorry I forgot", will you still take XX amount for it below what you're asking for it"? I told them to eff of the highest snow pile. :p

Finally sold is yesterday to some good ol boy who lives in a trailer with Carver speakers.. says his Pioneer bit it..but had never heard of Marantz, but wanted something to power his towers. :D He got a good deal, and I felt good about the sale. He kept his word on when he would show up. I made sure the receiver was cleaned, hooked up to speakers and playing some music when he arrived. ;)

Typical, low-class, out-for-theirself individual that has taken over our great nation. Even though I'm only 41, I grew up in a culture of your word or handshake being the gospel.

    Sorry to hear what happened.

Sounds like a real ****. I had the same thing happen to me once with a 76 TransAm I was gonna buy off of someone. I had called them and talked to them about it, and even went out to look at it. I told him I'd think about it for a couple days, and let him know. So I call him back a couple days later, and tell him I'm interested. He says "great, when do you wanna come get it?". We arranged to meet at his house a couple days after I talked to him on the phone. I go there with cash in hand, and I pull in...and I'm thinking "where the **** the car at?". I go knock on the door, and sure enough he had already sold it the day before...needless to say I was pissed.

Don't do business with the guy after that...Keep looking, something better will come your way.

I'm not going to trash him. I've moved on. Now I have to find another source where I can get the receiver for a price I can afford.

I've decided on a Pioneer Elite VSX-01THX. I also looked at the VSX-91THX, but the lack of analog to HDMI upconversion ruled it out.

Pioneer Elite are one of the few brands I don't carry, or at least have access to. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

No problem. Thanks for the asking. There are several resellers that carry it for $550ish shipped. I'll just have to buck up and spend the extra $$$.

Due to surprise car repairs my budget has gone south. So I decided to pick up another of the receivers I am considering, a Yamaha RX-V663. The primary reason I had ruled it out was because it only had 2 HDMI inputs, but a Monoprice HDMI switch would resolve that problem.

Anyway, I began my search and found one for sale on AVS Forums for $280! Happy, happy, joy, joy! So I PM the seller, get the details about the unit, and agree to a purchase. I send the payment via Paypal and another PM to the seller to request the tracking information when it's shipped. Then the excitement begins! I paid on a Sunday, so I'm expecting a delay of a day or two to get everything cleared. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday pass and no word from the seller. Thursday I send them another PM asking about the shipping. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday pass and still no word. I finally PM the seller again Monday informing them that if I don't hear anything that day I would contact Paypal to reverse the charge. Surprisingly, the seller responds! They said the unit shipped Friday and I should have it that week, but they didn't have the tracking information at that time. I replied asking for the information to be sent as soon as possible. Needless to say, I haven't heard a word so I contacted Paypal last night. Since it wasn't an ebay transaction there is no Paypal protection so I really hope I get my money back. Yes, I know, poor me.:(

I suppose I'm just not destined to upgrade my H/K AVR125. At least it still works.

Sheesh....hopefully the guy was truthful and it's in the mail. I can certainly understand your frustration and suspicion. Hope it works out for you. By the way if you ever get it that's a great receiver. I got one myself just before Christmas for under $300.00 cdn. and it's been really good for me. The only downside is I've had one or two hdmi handshake issues that were fixed by shutting off and then on again. Other than that a really excellent receiver for the money.
