I found a good price on an amp that only takes 230-240V so I would need to use it with a converter in the states. Two questions:

Will it sound good if I use an adapter?

How much/where can I get a quality adapter?

I hope someone can give me a prompt answer before someone else snatches it up! Thanks!

    What brand/model?

Sometimes a manufacturer will have multiple 'taps' inside. It could be 115v 'ready', if that makes sense.

I've done a little research in the past few minutes and found that a step up converter with decent watt/amp ratings is prohibitively expensive, but what about this ready-ness? Can I have it converted to 115V? Could I do it myself? It's an H/K PA2200

Probably going to be your best bet. I looked around, but could not find any info as to converting the voltage.

Sorry that wasn't much help, you could call a couple electronics repair shops in your area, or find an authorized service center (via the the hk website) and give them a shout.

    Cheers,
