Okay,
I am buying a pair of RTi10's. I am going to be using it with my HK AVR 130 which is a 5.1 system. I also have a velodyne 10" CHT sub. Should i Power my RTi10's by hooking up two channels into each rti10 or should i set the Harman Kardon to Stereo and use one channel on each speaker. The reason for this question is that the RTi10's are Bi-Wired. So would it be better to hook up 2 channels into each speaker and have nothing hooked up to the center speaker channel, or should i set it up using stereo with one channel going into each speaker. Let me know what you think. Im new to this. I used to have Adcom amps and preamp that was set up to stereo. i dont know much about 5.1 systems. Thanks for any and all advice.

Connect 1 channel to each speaker. The alternate method you are describing is bi-amping, not bi-wiring. The problem with that on a 5.1 receiver is that all channels do not present the same material. Surround channels only present ambient sounds unless you're using 5 channel stereo mode.

I have an HK AVR125 and if you are looking for any kind of volume I would recommend that you upgrade your receiver to one that has preamp outputs.

The h/k receivers are great performers IMO, and the 130 is conservatively rated at 45w/ch x5 (55w/ch x2), so quite similar to my own AVR147 (40w/ch x5), but the RTi10 are probably too big to sound their best with this IMO. I would recommend RTi8 instead for this type of usage, and they'll be cheaper too. That said, I never used my 147 with just two speakers and a subwoofer, and that would make it easier to drive bigger speakers better (more power reserves when just using two channels on the receiver), so it really depends on what you might do to change things in the future, if the results don't quite live up to your expectations.

As for bi-amping/bi-wiring, or whatever that is you are trying to do, that would be pointless IMO when using the same receiver for either set of binding posts on the speaker. You don't get more power by using more binding posts from the same receiver IMO, since source of the ability to deliver power is the same. Also, because of what was said by jmwest about differing channel content, I'm not sure what listening modes you could even use successfully. Make sure the jumpers that connect the speaker binding posts are in place, and tight.

Just set up the 130 with the menus correctly, for the speakers and subwoofer that you are using, including the crossover settings, and you shouldn't have any problems.

P.S. Welcome to Club Polk, BTW!
    Alea jacta est!
