$100,000,000,000,000....That is one hundred TRILLION dollars. And that is what we ACTUALLY owe, as of right now.
To give you an idea of how big that number is, it would take you 32,000 years to count(1,2,3) to 1 trillion.
I can't reference the source, but the guy was on Glen Beck last summer, and he was saying that the govt. only put's out the figures for each year, but that figure is how much we need to spend by the year 2050, with all the projected people retiring, public works that will be needed to be done, etc.

You're on a website that is all about excess in teh consumer market. There are a million things we don't NEED but like to have. No one NEEDS a car that goes 0-60 in 4 seconds, but we're a developed nation and it's a luxury. No one NEEDS speakers that cost 3000 dollars and are six feet tall, but ... same deal. Obviously the industries are completely unrelated but railing against one type of luxury while indulging fully in another is kinda silly.

I think they can skip a few years.

Or the big three should be taken over by the government and make 5 different car models, all Plug-In Hybrids or complete electric.

USA Model 1: Super economy - Like the Smart
USA Model 2: 5 Passenger economy
USA Model 3: Mini Van Plug-in HYbrid
    USA Model 4: Pickup Truck.
    USA Model 5: Tractor Trailer

Once Obama is in office he will take all the extra SDA's from you guys who have more than one pair and re-distribute them to all who do not have a pair. Of course they will need amps too. If we all sell our $1000+ amps we can then take the procedes and buy everyone in the US little $25 SS amps to drive them. Then, everyone will have a set of SDA's and an amp but no one will be happy.

China has nothing to gain by toppling the US, no matter what crazy scenarios you have concocted. Their economy depends pretty heavily on ours.

    Exactlyyyy. I'm completely with ya.

But as long as there are CEO's and athletes getting paid out the wazoo, there will be a demand for that suave, 0-60 in 4 seconds car. They gotta have their Ferraris and Bentleys. It's ingrained in the upper class nature and that's gonna be really hard to shake.

I know, when will the American car companies stop making Ferraris and Bentleys.

I'm through arguing. I'm just going to wait a few years until history takes a good look at what happened and shows where the real problems started. Then I will take my opportunity to say "I told you so". There are too many star-crossed democrats still in love with Obama (who is on his Hawaiian "honeymoon" right now buying beer for reporters covering his "working vacation") to be able to get through their thick heads about where the real issues lie.

A president does not have enough legislative power to be able to affect an economy as big as this one in the way it has been brought to its knees. If you think it does then go back to school and take an economics class.

My comments were not directed in that vein. I just think it's funny that he is taking a "working vacation" but I'm not really sure what he's doing except the equivalent of picking his team for dodgeball.

There is no way we could not have a HUGE tax hike in the next few years. Consider the amount we will go into debt and the interest on that money plus the dollar being worth half (because we printed twice as much and you are looking at paying at least 8 times more that we are currently in debt. If you have to pay tax when you remove your retirement money you are in big trouble. :(

Wouldn't an increase be dependent on the revenue generated by taxation of our economy? In other words, if we're doing well (high GDP or was it GNP?) and there's plenty of tax money to pay down the deficit in a timely manner than there may not be an increase but this will require the rest of the world to be devastated and needing to import large quantities of American goods and services. I'm just not sure what we have left to export now that investment banking went down the toilet. So, yes, I see heavy taxation down the road.

I'm going to lobby for the audio industry to get a kick start. We'll call it the "Stop buying HTiB's and get into real speakers" campaign. We'll put it towards advertising and a push to get HTiB's off the streets where our kids will grow up not understanding what a good set of speakers or headphones sound like. Remember, they're the future. Dads, get some cans on them kids!

"We've lent some of it. We've not lent some of it. We've not given any accounting of, 'Here's how we're doing it,'" said Thomas Kelly, a spokesman for JPMorgan Chase, which received $25 billion in emergency bailout money. "We have not disclosed that to the public. We're declining to."

Ahh, makes perfect sense. We'll just let $25B "float" around the books for a while...Wouldn't common sense dictate that the government require these banks (and anyone else who gets a free ride) to track EXACTLY how they are spending this money??

And since it is tax payer dollars floating that $25B, I personally would like to know how and where my $'s are being invested/wasted/etc. The money didn't come out of thin air, so it sure shouldn't disappear into thin air...
