I found this humorous....

So I'm buying a few cables for my setup (albeit temporary) and wanted to find out what the gauge wire was for a somewhat inexpensive Belkin sub cable and asked their Tech Support what gauge their cable was and this was their reply:
You inquired about the gauge size for part #AV50500. According to our Product Management Team:
The AV50500 does not use a single gauge wire, but uses hybrid-conductor technology - a unique multi-gauge, hybrid-conductor design, which combines various conductor types and sizes based on their areas of best performance, to produce a cable that excels in every frequency range. Hybrid-conductor technology uses three distinctly different conductor types to handle the bass, midrange, and high frequencies. Combining them together in the proper ratios yields a cable that is superior throughout the audio range, giving a balanced, full-range response so you20can hear every detail, lyric, and dialog as the creators of the audio content intended.
Color me confused.......I thought we were talking about a subwoofer cable, so I fired this back:
The only issue I have with that response per se is that we're talking about a Subwoofer cable, so I don't know what the point is in this cable even mentioning the ability to do ANYthing with midrange and high frequencies.

Can you at least get them to give me an approximation of the gauge size of the cable, hybrid or not?
To which their entire response was:
This subwoofer cable is 18AWG.

Gotta love how companies want to talk up their product to a useless degree......lol........

Even if we are talking about speaker cables, how do the wires know which frequency signal goes to which conductors? I don't know that there is a tiny traffic cop directing frequencies at the the amp. binding post? :)
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

What makes their cable special is that they don't use a regular traffic cop...

If the individual strands are coated (hyperlitz) the signal travels on the outside of each strand. I can see this making a difference but unsure what the difference is. Standard hyperlitz cable (same size strands, each coated) does sound different than solid core or stranded. Seems silly for a subwoofer though.

Sounds like Denon Link cable marketing. Perhaps they got fired and Belkin hired them. ;)

Those must be some expensive cables. Everyone knows that free range Yak scotum hair is the single most conductive material in the world. I need to check these out sometime.

Very true...according to some of these companies you need to spend more on a pair of 6 foot speaker wires than you do on your pair of speakers. Something there doesn't quite add up right to me...lol

I find it funnier that the sub cable is only 18awg. I believe the smallest gauge of speaker wire, in use, in my home is 12awg.

Well you do have to figure that the signal going to the sub is line level and not amplified like it would be going to speakers. 18awg is likely par for the course if not heavier than usual; right?

OMG! I laughed out loud when I read your reply. I can agree totally with you on this.

Me, Honey did you get gas for the car?

Wife, well I decided to go to the store and pick up something for my mom, then I went over to my sisters and helped her with Christmas decorations, then I got a call from Lisa and she wanted to know what she should get for her hubby and I said I would ask you.

Me, So did you get gas for the car.

Wife, Why don't you ever listen to me? What are you in a hurry and you can't talk to me once in a while.

    Me, Forget it.

Wife, Forget what? I told you I got gas.

    Me, ??????? Ugh!!!!

That's what I use. I've never had any problems with it. Only cost me about 10 bucks for 15 feet of it too.
