Bi-amp/Bi-wire/7.1ch Help

I was originally thinking about get 2 2ch amps and running the Front Pre-outs on my receiver to each of them (using a split connection) and running those to my TSi500s in a bi-amp connection. That way I can free up the Rear Surround connections on my receiver for 7.1ch audio.

The 2ch amp I was going to get is the Onkyo M282. I have a Yamaha RX-V663.

Then I was thinking, why do I have to get 2 amps? Why not just get 1 amp and run the rear surround pre-outs on the receiver to the amp and have it power the rears. Then I read through the manual, and realized that the front audio gets output through the pre-out rear surround when the receiver is set to bi-amp.

So sticking with the one amp idea, I was thinking about running the front pre-outs to the 2ch amp, and connecting both the 2ch amp and the receiver front channel connections to the separate connections on the speakers in order to bi-amp them.

However, thinking about it, Im pretty sure what I described is a bi-wired connection (technically speaking) and would not provide as much sound benefit as a true bi-amped connection. (correct me if Im wrong).

That being said, is there any way I can have my cake (bi-amp the fronts) and eat it too (being able to add the rear surrounds to make it 7.1)?

I think you could have your cake and eat it too by buying a single 2 channel amp with real power and forgetting about bi-amping. I don't know what bi-amping into passive crossovers would give you that more power wouldn't give you more of.

Im assuming the passive crossover you speak of is internal to the speaker (TSi500), so whether its a bi-amped or bi-wired connection, it doesnt really matter since the sound quality will be the same. What does matter is the power running into them?

    Thanks for your response.

Edit: Also, I would probably need a really good 2ch amp, something with about 200wpc, which is about what my TSi500s are getting right now in a bi-amped connection. Got any recommendations?
