GLS Banana Question

I'm in the market for some new banana plugs and was looking at the GLS bananas offered by Orange County. In particular, I was looking at the "safe connect" bananas because I like the way the wire is connected to the banana.

I was curious what opinions people had on the GLS safe connect v. GLS locking, especially those who have used them first hand. Is a locking banana really necessary with stationary equipment, or are they mainly for piece of mind that the connection will be solid?

I have used the standard GLS nanners and the locking type. (not sure what the safe connect is)

Both are good quality, but I do think it is worth the extra money for the locking over the standard ones.

Ben, are the locking nanners that you have Generation 1 or 2?

It's funny that you mentioned Conyers because that is where I grew up; I live up in Roswell now (after an 8 year stint up in NJ after graduate school). I still pass through Conyers quite a bit to visit my parents who live down at Lake Jackson......small world!

This picture shows the difference between Gen 1 and 2. The Gen 2 just gives it a more solid and finished look and I believe they say that you do not need to fold the wire (to thicken smaller guage wires) in order to tighten the set screw.

If you're gonna get nanners get the locking ones from GLS. I have both the locking and non-locking one. The locking ones let you tighten the plug for a nice snug fit. The standard ones feel loose and it doesn't "feel" like its a good connection.

They also have 2 little screws to tighten the wire in the banana plug. The "safe connect" seems to do the same but in a more elaborate way....seems like a pain in the **** to me.
