Hi fellas need some help.

A coworker of Mark's has asked me to help her update her home theater of 15years which includes some Bose that she inherited but is willing to get rid of.

She has a budget of around $1500.00, but is willing to be flexible. Below are some products she is looking at.

She also has this right now. 52” Sony Bravia LCD TV, and she needs to have these features XM compatible, has an iPod docking station. She is also willing to have mid size speakers.

That Amazon package doesn't look too bad, but I think she could do with better speakers. The Denon looks good as well.

So help me out here with ideas guys, lets get this lady hooked up!!!

She has her own house, but I don't know about space confinements.

She wants new since she doesn't plan on upgrading again probably for another 15 years!

    Jesse, that's not very helpful.

She is obviously looking for something like HTIAB, but I want to get her a step or 2 above that.

SVS has some nice speaker packages available.

Pair that with a Yamaha 663 and you will have a few bucks left over for cables and such. (Not 100% that the yamaha has all the options she wants though - will want to check that out)
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)

how about some vintage monitors? i know you said new but there's no reason that a nice pair of speakers would not last another 15 years.

    Free shipping, and low prices.

I like Denon over Yammi. Especially with lower budget speakers. You can put together something nice fairly cheap.
    Happy hunting, and Merry Christmas.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

The reason I ask, is there are some good deals on some slightly used, if not new,Parasound gear floating around.

Not to up on HTIAB stuff, but the yammie and Polk combo seems like it`s been blessed by Polk Audio

A Denon Reciever and a 5ch Parasound amp would be something that would not need upgrading, then maybe some RT speaks

Might be a little higher in cost, but definately not needing to upgrade for many moons

I`ll do some "Polkin" around and see whaT I find for HTIAB type deals

I'd talk her into used stuff. Take for example the great deal I got from wingnut on my receiver in the flea market. Pioneer Elite, 7.1, 130wpc, 2 years old, MSRP $2K, not a fingerprint on it... $400. You can get a lot of used speaker quality for the remaining $1100.

    Oh, and I seriously suggest 200wpc. :)

I was gonna say 200wpc, too, but just to be a smarta$$.

On a serious note, what about one of the Surroundbar options? Out of all the cool stuff I saw at HQ during Polkfest, I think I was most surprised by the Surroundbar 360 package. Maybe one of the small Surroundbars, a sub, and a midline receiver with the features she needs?

If my room didn't dictate that I have the TV in a corner, I'd sell all my HT stuff and get the SB 360 and a sub.

I'd go with the amazon deal. You get everything, and it'll be noticable step up from the system she's used to.
The other option is getting the Denon AVR-1909($650.00), which has all the features of HD audio, then she could get some deals on the polks in the Ebay area?
    Moniter 30'=$80, OWM's=$200, CS1=$80, then $500.00 toward a subwoofer?
    Pretty rockin system, IMHO.
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Here is my recommendations to her.

    1. SVS http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-scs01.cfm Call SVS directly to place order
    5.0 Multi-channel SCS-01(M) speaker system with SBS-01 surrounds, $740
Polk DSW Pro 400 Subwoofer (From Amazon)Price: $399.95
Denon AVR 988 (from Amazon) $539.97

    Total $1,679.92

    2. All Polk Speaker system Featuring (All ordered from Amazon)
    RM-95 5 speaker system $599.95
Polk DSW Pro 400 Subwoofer $399.95
    Denon AVR 988 $539.97

    Total $1,539.87

    3. Polk Audio HTS-9605 7.1-Channel Home Theater System with Yamaha RX-V663 Receiver (Black)
    http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-HTS-9605-7-1-Channel-Receiver/dp/B001JEOQVA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1229563827&sr=1-2

Polk RM-20 5 speaker system (This is an older discontinued speaker system from Polk. The one I recommended above is their current version.

    Total $1,499.95

I like system number one because with the bigger bookshelves, you get fuller sound. I picked the Denon for the receiver because it tends to have a warmer sound over Yamaha which I prefer. I heard the DSW Pro 400 at Polk HQ and it ROCKED! I want one myself! I believe in the long run this system will give you the best sound & the geatest flexibility.

I have not heard SVS's bookshelves, (They are an internet direct only company) But they are THE source when it comes to subwoofers which I have heard. In researching their bookshelves I discovered they use parts from companies that put together Dynaudio speakers. If I didn't get another pair of Polk speakers I would get Dynaudios!

I chose a Polk sub over a SVS simply because the weight of their smallest box sub is too heavy & big! You can move the Polk sub & it pounds!

System 2 is simply a more up to date version of system #3 of Polk speakers.

System 3 is the one you picked out. Yes you get alot for the money. But essentially it is a home theater in a box.as is system 2. And considering that you are not a constant upgrader, I think you would be better served by paying more money now for a higher grade product that will serve you better over the years.

    Just slightly over budget ......

    Denon AVR-1508 R 75-watt Channel R 7.1 Receiver - Refurb - Overstock.com - $300

    DSW 400 - Amazon - $400 (I love mine)

    CSi A4 - Amazon -$250

    FXi A4 - Refurb - Polk Direct Ebay - $169

    RTi A7 - Polk Direct - Ebay Store - $449

Brings you to a Total of $1568 plus any shipping or sales tax issues

I would get her an Aiwa system then spend your consulting fee on tubed gear.

If it would make you feel to guilty to keep gear with the money she gave you then you can send the tube stuff to me.

Otherwise, I just cant imagine something better than that new surround bar with a sub and a receiver for the average homeowner system.
