My speaker find
Found this pair of Polk 5a speakers yesterday. Picked them up for $40.00 and their condition is 7.5/10. I am going to use these as surrounds as they sound much better than the R10s I was using. Now I need to get a center channel to go with them. My mains are monitor 10b btw. What do you all suggest?
I only put the 5s on top of my 10s so I could do an a/b comparison. Now the 5s are in the rear for surrounds.

Sweet deal!
I don't know what to use as a center."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason." -
What the heck kind of tweeter is that? Don't recall seeing one like that in a Monitor 7.

Get a regular Monitor 5 for the center, and are both the tweeters the same? Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Both tweeters are the same. They are the original ones to the 5a right (or are these the original tweeters? http://www.polksda.com/ebay/5751854852_Mon5A.pdf )? I need a shielded center channel as I will be placing it right on top of the tv.

I'm not the ultimate authority on all things Polk, but those tweeters don't look original. I thought they might be Peerless/SL2000/SL2500 depending on the model of the Monitor, but that tweeter looks like none of the above.
5a's--that'd be one of the first two tweeters mentioned above. Can someone else pitch in their thoughts?

Well, I answered my own question by pulling the tweeters. Here is what is in there. These tweeters actually sound really detailed and not harsh. Now, what tweeter do I need to get to replace these or just leave them alone? Not sure about all the crossover stuff in any way.

There are proper replacements available from Polk; RDA-094 (or something like that).

more than likely the Monitor 5's like yours came with the SL2000 tweeter... there were various other tweeters used in the series.. ie: peerless. but most used the SL2000 silver coil dome. Never a Pyle Driver.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Al could be right. Is there a fuse on the back??

Yes there is a fuse on the back of the speakers. Watched Batman and The new Mummy movie over the last two days and the 5s sound great for surround. Much more sound compared to the R10s I had hooked up before. Was going to use one of the R10s for the center but when I placed it on top of my tv it distorted the color for some reason even though it is shielded. Used an old center I had instead........better than nothing, lol. Going to call Polk cs later to find out exactly which tweeter came in the speaker. -

It is either SL 1000 or peerless tweeter. Definitly not SL2000.
