Nice find, pick up a few HD DVDs for low on Amazon and your local Frys and you'll be set. I still have the XA2 in my setup.

I still rock SD and HD-DVD on my HD-XA1 in the main room and HD-A2 in bedroom. No complaints. If you have an older SD DVD player, you should look into picking up an HD-DVD player on the cheap!

I need to hit up Amazon and pick up some more HD-DVD titles. Thanks for the reminder.

    Still rockin' my Tosh A2.

I'll jump on blu-ray when somebody makes a player for $99 that is as good as what I already have.

I have both and have no preference between the two other than availability. I actually think the HD DVDs have a better picture, but it might just be a better player. HD-AX1 vs PS3, which the PS3 is by no means a slouch and mine is the original 6ogb.

I have an XA-2 also and regret that HD failed. I did get a BR player recently and I don't think it is as good as HD. The PQ is up there but I don't think the audio is as good. I got what is supposed to be a good BR player, Panasonic BD-55, but I like the XA-2 better.

I've always considered the SQ better on the HD DVDs, too and the Blu die hards look at me like I'm nuts. When it comes down to it, they are both excellent formats, just wish there was room for both. A little competition never hurt anyone and usually leads to faster improvements in the short run and better pricing in the long run.

I'll be keeping both unless, in the future, I get afford to get one of the Ultra universal players that plays everything known to man.

I watched Transfomers and the Last Samurai last night and loved the sound quality on HD DVD. PQ is great too of course. I like the menu system better on HD DVD over BLu.

I get a DVD with the latest firmware sent to me from Toshiba whenver a update is released. couple times a year. I guess you would have to register your player to receive the updates.

Just run ethernet cable to it and let it update itself. I almost forgot if you have ethernet on this player or not.

    But here's page link

    http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/customersupport/updates_notices.asp

Edit: Confirmed that it does have Lan, so just run ethernet cable, go into software and update via system menu.

Thanks, but do I have to register the XA1 to my router or just hook it up directly to my puter?

Single cable from router to the XA1 and you should be ok.
