I currently am running RTA 15TL'S for mains, RTA 11t's for rears and RTA 8t's for sides. I can purchase a pair of SDA 2b's in good condition for $300.00.

Would you buy them for $300.00 and

Where would you put them in my system?

I am 50/50 on music and HT.

Thanks for any input as I have never heard the famous SDA line.

To answer your question first, YES, $300.00 is a good price for the 2Bs. I'm assuming they're in good shape. You could use them for your mains and they would sound great.

Now, to offer up a suggestion...

Your mains, the RTA15tl's, are very very nice speakers. What you might want to do if you're looking for an SDA-like effect (I'm sure George Grand and some others might agree) is to look around, possibly on Ebay, for a Carver Sonic Hologram Generator. That unit when connected to your receiver creates an SDA-like effect. It works pretty well, but not quite as good as the SDA effect on the Polks. Still, it works well and would sound great when used in conjunction with those 15tl's. On Ebay, do a search for Carver Sonic and it will bring up what is up for auction. I always see atleast a couple up for auction all the time. You can usually pick one up for under a hundred bucks.

    Good luck!

Another suggestion for your current setup. The side speakers receive more info then the rear. I would exchange the 11s and 8s you should notice a nice improvement.
Also try putting the 8s on the sides in the back, mounted at ear level(on the floor fist to see if you like the effect). You will get a larger surround sence with them in this position.

George Grand agrees with what John Strong says about the Carver Sonic Hologram Generator. He might even think it sounds BETTER than the SDA's. He is entitled to his opinion, and will get the **** kicked out of him here nonetheless. But that is his opinion.

I also have 4 RTA11's in my VERY MODEST home theater rig Warlock's, but I don't use a Hologram Generator in there. Just in my stereo only He-Man rig.

The RTA15's image like nobody's business to start with. Adding the Hologram Generator would be icing on the cake. HOWEVER, a Hologram Generator is going to run you about $100 plus shipping, which will be minimal, because it's a light piece. Here's the only question I would add. Will you be losing any low end by going to the SDA 2b's as your front mains? If you will, stick with the RTA 15's and get the generator. If the 2B's have a BETTER bottom end than the 15's, spend the $300 for them, FORGET the generator, and sell the 8's to pay for the 2B's.

I love it! You made me giggle my **** off at that response.

We won't kick the **** out of you for that one. We're relying on you to help bomb the towel heads into the stone age. No wait...they're already in the stone age. Just bomb them out of existance!

Mount your Carver Amazings on the underbelly of the plane and give them an updated version of the helicopter attack in Apocolypse Now :D
