My friend just bought this heater from Walmart. It does a great job of heating up his living room, foyer, and kitchen area in his apartment. Though I'm sure it wouldn't do well for heating a much larger area. It puts out about 260* air.

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10553596

He also played around with this heater (his friend has this one in his house) and he said it really cranks out the heat. It puts out about 400* air.

You understand that that unit is only for outdoor use? Moving a combustion unit w/ no chimney vent indoors puts you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning!

Since the ice storm, power has been coming back slowly in our area. We already have two people who died from running a generator in their attached garage.

Be Safe! Take no chances w/ unapproved indoor heating systems.

    BD,

Yea, w/ resistance type electric heaters, a watt in equals a watt out. There is no way to make 'em more efficient, despite what some ads try to say. Your only hope is that they heat a small area, while the rest of the house is kept at a lower temp--hopefully costing less than heating the entire house to the temp demanded by She Who Must Be Obeyed. :(

We have a fireplace insert which burns propane. (Had to stop burning wood due to my asthma.) My wife can toast her toes by the fireplace, while I keep the main thermostat set at 61. And the fireplace insert was a great help during the power outage from the ice storm. It can be manually turned on even when the power is out. Doesn't have the thermostat control or blower then, but it puts out heat and doesn't need to be tended. :)

    Cheers, Jim

It`s supposed to be getting colder all next week

I told everybody to bundle up ,and get a blanket

The "central" wall heater went out last year and there is no way I can cough up the $$ to replace it

It send heat through the vents to the living room and the end of the hall, but does not actually enter any of the bedrooms...:(

Nobody wants to come into my office though....that`s where they put me so they don`t have to deal with me...I guess !!

When I lived up north I used a Kerosen heater with a window or 2 cracked for ventlation. But never used it over night while sleeping, used a oil filled heater in the bed room for that need. If really cold the old oil fired steam heat kicked in, but I know that was going to cost me $$.

those little 12 dollar ones at walmart put out a TON of eat. just have them walk around with one of those and plug it in wherever they go. those will heat u up. i put one under my desk at work (its glass) and i had a frozen water on top. in about 15 minutes the water was completely melted and actually warm! my leather chair heated up so much that when i touched the back of my legs to it, it burnt a little hair off!
Those little heaters are cheap and do a great job as a personal heater, i use it at home in the bathroom, and in 10 minutes its very very toasty.

I heat with a woodburning stove. It makes more sense for me than most people though...seeing as I run a tree service and all.

I just put in a new stove a few months ago actually...it's working out great so far. It's made of soapstone, rather than traditional cast iron. It's a lot more efficient, and a lot better looking even.
