Reconing, replacement, etc
I have no experience with reconing drivers.. and you can look at places like Parts Express that sell inexpensive "replacement drivers" that you can drop in old speakers....
What do you think about things like this concerning the original design of the speaker system? Having done some .. and read more about.. cross-over design, driver selection, etc, it seems ... questionable to just drop in a new driver.. but more than that right now, I'm wondering about reconing.. seems like the new cone would be of different mass, different stiffness, etc that would alter the physical and sonic characteristics of the driver/motor/box interaction. Even replacing a foam surround would .. I would think... alter the compliance.
Thoughts? Experience?
