Should I buy connectors?

I am kind of new to this kind of stuff, and I was wondering if I should purchase connectors for my speaker wire. Do they really make a difference? The receiver is a Sony STRDG720, the center channel speaker is a Polk CS2, and the left and rights are R50.

Thanks.

    Yes and no.

Yes because if you cut an old wire that has oxidation at the ends and wire strands missing, cutting the wire and starting from scratch, adding a connector with solder that completely envelops oxygen from potential corrosion and sealing it with shrink wrap.....the connection is solid and protected if done correctly.

No because if your wire has a break somewhere in the housing that has been compromised, then nothing you can do will improve the outcome.

With the wire I'm using now, Mapleshades Golden Helix, I run just a plain old bare wire. The MS is a solid core wire much like Anti-Cables and I just stick them in the whole and tighten it down. I do clean them every couple months with some De-oxit.

Plugs are nice if you move equipment around, or plan to move or change things from time to time. Plugs also are great at keeping stray wires from reaching across terminals and creating shorted conditions. You can check the condition of the wire and connection before reaching around the back of your receiver to plug a speaker in.

    Just my two cents :)

check out GLS audio plugs on ebay. they are good quality and relatively inexpensive. Compare to Monster Cable.

I have a set of 20 GLS plugs, 10 black and 10 red, new in the box, for sale. These are the 24-karat gold-plated plugs with the black chrome shell. I will sell them less than whatever you are seeing on eBay for the same item. I'm not a dealer--just have the one set for sale. If you're interested, you can message me here or e-mail at GOrme@nc.rr.com.

Based on your response, would soldering the end of the wire be just as effective as installing banana clips?

GLS and Nakamichi plugs are good, and the added benefit (besides ensuring a secure and oxygen free connection if done correctly) is that they look more clean and professional as a termination, especially if you have a "rear-end" cabinet set-up worth showing off.
