DSW Pro 500

Gents,

I lurk a lot, but finally am upgrading my HT system from a trusty RM5400 I've long relied upon.

Running RTiA3s and a CSiA6 up front. I've selected a DSW Pro 500 to round out the bass, but have heard mixed reviews on Polk subs. Thus far I've been satisfied with the PSW50 that was equipped with my RM5400 system. I was pleased with the quality of bass for the price, it simply bottomed out too easily on some of the newer movies.

I'm not sure what to expect of the DSW Pro 500, but am hoping that it is an upgrade that will go a bit deeper and not bottom out so easily. I did manage to get a good price at $360, but seeing the PSW1000 go for $399-$499 has me doubting myself.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Tim

Congrats on the new DSW 500 subwoofer. This generation of Polk Audio subs are very powerful and nice sounding. Bigger isn't always better per se'. Matching the right subwoofer with your room is though. Placement is also very important to get the most out of any sub.

I say.. once your DSW 500 arrives.. play around with it's placement till you find a good spot for it. Along a nice long wall has usually resulted in good bass.. and is a good place to start.. but all rooms are different.

And if it's not to your liking, then move up to the larger DSW sub.

bottom line, Polk makes some really decent subwoofers currently.

    Thanks, DangerBoy.

I went to school in Spokane (Whitworth/Gonzaga), and still claim it as my home of record (for the Army). My parents live in Reardan, and I always like coming back to Spokane on vacation.

    Sigmundsauer,

I think you are going to be in for a pleasant surprise with the DSW PRO-500. I own all three DSW subs (400, 500, and 600). They are a sweet line of subs and I'm glad they are finally being recognized for the good subs they are. All three are very musical, are tight, hard hitting, and reach down pretty low. They are great all around subs. I've heard other subs that went a little lower and louder for home theater performance, but then they can't touch the DSW subs for music. The remote for the subs are vey handy. Make sure you play around with the phase and the placement settings of the subs. (corner, mid-wall, cabinent, middle room) to see what works best for your room. Thats another thing to like about these subs, you can place the sub nearly anywhere in the room and with the PRO, the sub will sound good. This really helps if your limited where you can place the sub. Tell us what you think about the sub after you've had a chance to try it out for a little bit. I hope you'll be as happy with yours as I have been with mine.

    Dawgfish,

Your optimism is refreshing. Now, if they'd just ship the darn thing already. I'm getting really impatient. Have to remind myself not to worship such things, but I sure am excited to give it a whirl.

Waiting for new toys during the shipping process is always exciting and it seems like it takes forever. It's almost like the anticipation of Christmas morning as a kid! Hopefully it will get to your home before then ;-)
