Break in period for CDs?

Just kidding. I got tired of seeing my lame "adding pic to post" thread at the top of this section of the forum so I'm bumping it downward.

I know I put my CD's on the end of my drill & whiz 'em around for a couple of hours before I play them...makes them sound very smooth & tube-like!

It would not surprise me in the least to find a thread in some forum that someone passionately believes that CDs must be broken in. :D

Another one might be that depending on the music you listen to - the ambient air temperature and relative humidity must be controlled and stable for 24 hrs for optimum SQ. Oh, and it must be darkened because photons interfere with the propagation speed of sound waves and set up sonic 'scattering' due to the quantum interaction of photons and air (which is the medium for sonic transmission).

Check out the 3rd review in the list:

"Audible results are very good and it is hard to listen to a non- treated disc after listening to an enhanced version of that same disc on any CDP."

I always take my CD's and give them a good soak (at least 4 hours) in a 6-quart stainless steel stew pot of refrigerant. The freon that I found to work the best is R12. It's a little hard to get, and expensive, but you can pour it directly into the pot and it won't boil off immediately when you place your CD's in the pot.

    Good luck !

I have a ritual that I perform before every CD I listen to.

Sound travels better in cold environments with absolutely no light. So I first make sure that every window in my house is completely sealed off...no light whatsoever, then I crank up the A/C(even in the middle of winter) and let my house chill for several hours before listening. While waiting for the house to get cold I dig my CD's up from the airtight container that I have in buried in my backyard. I keep them buried because it's colder underground, and no light can get to them.

    The effects are subtle.

In summer months you should use the freezer. Colder then underground and you can keep them in the dark. Maybe put them in a burlap sack or perhaps buy a dedicated freezer for them, that way you could upgrade the power cord to something audiophile approved.

This is a good idea. I'd have to have a standalone freezer for them though. I would probably also bury the freezer underground just to increase the effects. When CD's are buried underground they absorb energy from the earth, which improves sound quality.

Also, I'm going to create my own electrical generating station just for my home theater. This eliminates all possibilities of ground loops and electrical interference and whatnot.

I'm also thinking about removing all of the carpet from my house, because as we all know, carpet contains protons and electrons. These can completely destroy your sound quality. It will make a 20,000 dollar system sound like a 30 dollar boom box from Walmart. The carpet must go. The furniture also...aside from my home theater, the only thing I want to have in my house is one small concrete stool that's anchored to the floor. It can't even have a backrest...that creates more of an obstruction.

Great stuff guys. Obviously for best results the rig, including the power source, and the listeners, if any, must be enclosed in a capsule and immersed in a bath of liquid hydrogen. I look forward to reading about this in Stereophile.

Meanwhile I wonder: what happens if speakers of different colors are in the same rig? A black LSiC, for example, with cherry LSi fronts and surrounds. Would it be sufficient to eliminate radiation in the visible frequencies or must all EM radiation be suppressed? Or would subtle sound degradation be unavoidable?

Or possibly a bath of liquid Budweiser, and a tap inside the capsule, would suffice.

No...it wouldn't even be worth buying if they weren't color matched. It causes the sound to reflect back into the speaker and actually causes your music to be played backwards...everyone knows this...:p

I don't know...wouldn't the lyrics start becoming slurred? The instrumentals might start getting a bit sloppy. If you submerge it in the Budweiser for to long it could just shut off and not turn back on again for 12-14 hours or so...;)

Bunch of damn amateurs. Pffft! You should know by now that there is a quicker and much more effective way to do the same thing as "breaking in" your CD's. Once you take your CDP and put it through a wash cycle in the dishwasher and thoroughly dry it, then you won't have to go through all the BS jargon and wish-wash posted in this thread. As soon as all of the components [specifically the laser] are thoroughly washed then all of the previous posts are just a waste of time.

Sheesh! When will you guys learn?

Sometimes I play my CDs backwards on a turn-table. I listen for subliminal messages. Sometimes I hear Helter Skelter. Sometimes I just sit in a dark room and laugh at the walls for hours on end.
