I'm new to this format but......
When you get a SACD isn't it supposed to have the logo somewhere on the CD and/or CD inserts?

I bought Peter Gabriel Shaking The Tree off feebay listed as Super Audio CD.
No logo anywhere on CD or inserts!
Looks like a stright copy to me!

Not only that is SUPPOSED to be like new but there is a hue on it that looks like someone took a dirty was rag and clean a mirror with it.
It don't seem to come off.....plays ok on my REGULAR CD player but don't look new to me!

I think the seller was smoking something??

Does eBay have a format specifically listed for SACD? If not, well then the auction does say that the format is "CD". And, nowhere do they call it by it's common "SACD" title, just Super Audio CD. This could simply mean that it was recorded in good quality. Kind of like "XRCD", which stood for eXtended Resolution CD, but was really just a regular CD.
    Ludicrous gibs!

    Maybe I'm a idiot but......

When a CD is listed [Super Audio CD] I take it as being a SACD.
    Not a SUPER Audio CD.

If I'm wrong then I'll chalk it up as a lesson learned....if not I guess I'd call myself a lil pissed.

"Super Audio CD" is the official name of the format -- SACD is just an acronym.

    And from the listing:

"This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players."

I believe that every SACD that I own has its logo somewhere on the cover. My player also shows me when an SACD is playing... does yours provide you any indication?

My player isn't here yet....maybe tomorrow or Friday?
This CD plays like a normal CD in my JVC.

Nothing marked on CD anywhere Hybrid or otherwise

Does a SACD have a lil diff color on it's read surface than a normal CD?

Most SACD's are hybrids and will play on a regular player.

But, that listing shows the UPC as: 606949362829

When I look that up on Amazon, I get this:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=606949362829&x=0&y=0

Looks like a plain ol' Audio CD, sorry.

The data side of a hybrid SACD should have a light gold color. However, if I remember correctly, PG's "Shaking the Tree - 16 Golden Greats" SACD was released in the US as a single-layer SACD. On the other hand, this title was released as a hybrid SACD outside of North America. Below is a scan of my SACD of "Shaking the Tree"....note the narrow hinges on the SACD jewel case, which indicates an early SACD release. You can no longer find replacements of these early SACD jewel cases.

As for whether a SACD title should carry a SACD logo on its packaging, just look at the Rolling Stones SACDs. You can't find one single SACD logo on these discs' exterior. All you can go by is that the SACD was packaged in digipak. Subsequent re-release of these Rolling Stones titles were on regular DSD-remastered CD and housed in a regular CD jewel case. As for the UPC code, both the SACD and the later CD versions carried the same UPC code. The label that released the Rolling Stones SACDs, Abkco, did the same thing with its Sam Cooke, Herman's Hermits, and the Animals SACDs. Which is why you should believe the sales figure of SACD from the RIAA....they go by the UPC code, but which was sold....the SACD or the later CD re-release?

Said they'd refund my $5 but I can't see quibbling over 5 bux.
