My FZR1000 did 90 in first, and when third wound out the font tire would come down at 130. Barrnett clutch, jet kit, and Vance and Hines strip pipe:) I have been to 165 a few times, and had some left, but at that speed you start to think stuff like "what if the motor seized, a bird hit me, debris is on the road, or my sunglasses brake. It was very comfortable, but the uncontrollable environment can be dangerous. I have kids now. Bike is gone.

Yeah at that speed its crazy scary and I also begin to wonder things, it would be terrible to go down at that speed for sure.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

My buddy went down at 110. He slid for 100 yards. He was wearing a leather jacket, but no helmet. One of his ears was ground pretty much of. He is very lucky. They took some skin from his butt to make an ear, but now his hearing is pretty crappy:D Sorry bad joke. His hearing is fine.

He rear ended my buddy who was going 110. He was going faster. There was a corner coming up, and he is so lucky he didn't get tangled up in those metal guard rails.Please. Last summer we had a guy here in our group doing about 110-115 mph. He just took off and the rest of us just watched. Anyway 2 cars in both lanes, so he decides to pass on the shoulder. And wham, hit a truck dead on. All we could see was just a cloud of smoke and debris from the crash. After we got up to him, we just thought he was done, but he lived through it, lost 3 fingers on impact, tons of surgery to reduce brain swelling etc, today he is paralyzed to make a long story short.
Guard rails are no fun, we lost an airforce member last yr on an R1 who got tangled in one and lost.
As you can see tons of sportbike crashes here, so the Military enforce strict laws for those guys, they can only buy a 400 cc bike as a newcomer, 600 in the 3rd yr and then 1000. MSF courses are strictly enforced even for civilians like myself out here.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Yep. I lost a friend to brain swelling. It was his fault though. He was an idiot, and used to ride drunk. Well he passed out while riding, and fell off his bike at 60. He died 2 days later. About a year ago my friend and I passed an accident where a bike flew off an overpass. It looked like someone just dumped garbage all over the road. It was his bike. There were no large pieces to identify it as a motorcycle. Every once in a while I get the urge to get another bike, but it passes as soon as I look at my girls;)

Edit: BTW terminal velocity of a human falling from a distance of over 2000ft is 125mph. If you are going faster than 125mph and hit something solid you might as well just jumped out of a plane without a parachute:eek:Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Every once in a while I get the urge to get another bike, but it passes as soon as I look at my girls;)
When I had my serious street getoff ( In all my years riding , on the track ...both dragrace and roadrace ...and street ...I have only had one getoff ) it was back in June of 1985 on my first FJ1100 ( I say first because my insurance bought me a second new FJ1100 after the first was vaporized ).
It was an over 100mph getoff...flew over 300 feet before hitting the tall treetops that they say saved my life ( No guardrail ...or cleanup would have required a shovel ) ....got helicoptered out.
The reason I quoted that sentance of yours Ben, was right before going into emergency surgery ... after telling my dad to have my new FJ waiting for me when I got out of the hospital ( Then in a wheelchair for 3 months ) and my mom smacking me when I said that and then crying....my girlfriend leaned over me and whispered " You better make it out of surgery because I am pregnant "

Awesome ending man, and glad you made it out. I'm 31 now and I'm almost at a point where its time to hang it up I think. I had 2 crashes myself, both I suffered major road rash and my right leg still has a contusion til this day that bothers me from time to time. I had a nice hi-side on the street when a driver ran a light and to avoid hitting her I locked it up and was trying to just lay it down, front wheel caught quick grip and there I go over the bike in the air and a nice slide to boot. I can get pretty rough out there, so to all of you brothers that do ride, go easy out there. Often times it's not our fault.
I still wanna try out the 09 R1 though. Just looks so tempting.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I sold my last bike (a Honda CB750) many years ago when my girls were very young. I found I was not riding very much, we could certainly use the money and I also knew every trip on the bike put me more at risk than that same trip in a car. That is fact and I felt it was my responsibility to be as safe as possible so I could be around to help raise my kids.
I have only lately considered buying a bike again now that my girls are all grown up. I have no desire for a cruiser or sport bike but something more for short commutes and such. As I said above I have considered the Suzuki SV650. But I've also looked at some dual sport bikes like the Kawasaki KLR 650 or Suzuki DRZ 400S. I like the idea of being able to take it on some dirt and gravel roads and "some" trails as well as the street. I have started doing a good bit of hiking and outdoor photography and those bikes would fit right in with that."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Mine was 100% my own fault...after a track day at Laguna Seca, a group of about a dozen of us took to the canyons. I had smoked this new hotshot on his 900 Ninja at the track and he said he could take me in the tighter canyons ( Young and stupid remember ) . I spanked him again to the top of Mt Hamilton where he proceded to lowside through a barbed wire fence trying to keep up....then we decided to do Highway 9....we all sat and bullshitted a good while at the top and on the way back out he pulled out in front of me..couldnt have that..got him on the second turn and the third turn down from the top happens to be a left hand off-camber long high speed turn. Knee puck on the ground ...front end didnt slide slowly...it let go instantly on some stuff in the road I should have seen if I had not been laughing so hard inside my helmet...my bad 100%.
All the years of watching squids crash ( And die sometimes ) as well as experienced friends crash behind me had given me this superman type complex...as we all know there is only 1 superman
No road rash for me...my full leathers/racing boots/gloves and simpson helmet saw to that...the orthepedic surgeon was baffled ( And upset ) that the only bone to break was my right hip...it made his job a lot harder because every tendon holding the right shoulder and right ankle together were ripped from the bone.
Best advice for anybody riding on the street is buy yourself a dirt bike...and learn throttle control ...counter steering and what a sliding motorcycle feels like on a regular basis in the dirt...3 months on a dirtbike is worth 3 years experience on the street.
I cant wait for a couple of my good friends to get their 09 R1's...am looking forward to trying that engine
Here is my first R1...only had like 75 miles on her at the time of these pics and it already had been jetted/K&N'd by myself....Two Brothers Racing Carbon fiber pipe....sliders...tinted screen. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
