Doesn't surprise me one bit. We have a lush and embarrassing history of corrupt politics at the State level. Unfortunately this is another **** stain on the State of Illinois.

I hope they nail him and put he and former Governor George Ryan in the same cell. I hope to God Bush does NOT commute George Ryan's sentence.........he in no way deserves it.

Yes indeed. Hope also Pres. Obama doesn't fire Fitzgerald, perhaps under cover of firing a lot of other prosecutors at the same time.

That would be interesting! Obama firing a bunch of federal prosecutors! Isn't that what the Bush admin got in hot water for doing? I guess it all depends on how you define "change"!

Well, that breaks the tie for 5th most corrupt state. Sorry CA, you're now 6th.
On behalf of MA, welcome to the 'TOP 5'!!

No way Obama will fire Fitzgerald. Fitgerald is THE best U.S. prosecutor out there. I believe that both Enron (Kenneth Lay and his savvy partner) and Lewis "Scooter" Libby were jobs that handled as well. Plus, if you follow the reports, there is no love lost between this crumby governor and Obama. The governor used a bunch of expletives when describing Obama when the latter failed to play by the governor's rules, if you know what I mean.

"No way Obama will fire Fitzgerald."

Hope you're right. But...Obama endorsed Blago in '02 and '06, worked on his campaign in '02, was endorsed by Blago in return on one or two occasions. Axelrod, O's campaign manager, said on TV that O and Blago had had extensive discussions about who should fill the seat. So the "no love lost" is a recent phenomenon but Blago's corruption, and his relationship with Obama, are not.

Obama might also be tempted to fire Fitz to protect other Chicago cronies. It seems nobody in that town is clean, in gov't anyway.

Gotta love us. I hear they swooped in to get him before he could announce a replacement for Obama. It'd be really interesting to see who was willing to pay to get that seat if there was someone.

I say they should have waited until he did name the replacement, and follow the money trail.

Thanks for taking the heat off Jersey!

Glad to George. This has been a long time coming as they have had him under investigation for 3 years for various schemes and corruption. I have a feeling this is just the beginning. It maybe a while before Jersey is back in the fire.

I believe the last poll taken in Illinois gave the Governor a 13% approval rating. Dismal.......and he still was planning on running for another term. Idiot and not well liked at all. He has run our State into the ground to the point where we are 13 billion dollars behind on payments to various vendors, nursing homes, prisons and special needs programs, etc.

First Illinois was known because of Capone, then because of Michael Jordan and now because of an extremely corrupt Governor.

That is EXACTLY what the feds did. They could have waited until the seat was "paid for" and then nailed the whole corrupt machine in Chicago. But that would include way too many people at the top.
