Polk RM6750 and Monitor 50 questions
I am in the process of remodeling my basement and half of it will be a home theater. The space will be 11 x 24 feet. The TV will be on one end and the main seating will be about 14 to 15 feet back. This will be a set of recliners. There may be additional seating along the walls. There will be about 8 to 10 feet behind the seating. I am not sure what will be back there yet.
I have been buying audio components when I find them on sale. This is what I have so far.
Sony STR-DG820 7.1: $199
(http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665364791 )
Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 home theater speaker system: $199
( http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/rm6750 )
When the room is completed I plan to buy a Sony 52 inch XBR-6 and a Sony Blue Ray player.
I have two questions on the audio system.
1- Is the RM6750 5.1 good enough for this size room? I will be using two of the RM6750 speakers for the front speaker.
2- I may add two new speakers for the front speaker and use the RM6750 speakers for the surround and rear speakers to make a 7.1 system. The speakers that I am looking at are the Polk Audio Monitor 50's ($99 each). Will the Monitor 50's match up with the RM6750 system? The RM6750 system came with 4 satellite speakers, center speaker and sub-woofer.
3- If I go with the 7.1 system, where should the surround speakers be placed for this shape of room?
Thanks for your help!

I'd say it largely depends on your budget and expectations. The receiver seems to offer a nice level of features, and the speaker set is a nice little entry level system. But that's the extent of it. If it truly is a dedicated theater room, I'm thinking you'd want to upgrade relatively quickly. But, if you do not have expectations for big performance and sound, that setup should work alright.
Anything you buy on ebay with buy it now and paypal, be sure to use the 25% live search cashback. Might allow you to get some better speakers.Fronts: Polk RTi10
Center: Polk CSi A4
Surround: Polk FXi3
Sub: Dayton 100

I ran Polks RM705 sat. 5.1 system and it filled my 24x16 living room granted I had to give them some volume. Then moved then to my 16x14 basement where they sounded better. So yes they'll work how good that's for you to decide.
I think the Monitor 50's will give you a better sound. Hope the 6750's center can keep up. -
Ideally you want the speakers to all be from the same line...ie Monitor series, R series, etc. For example, you could pick up two R150's on ebay for $55, a CSR center for around $100, two R50's from frys.com for $60 each, Dayton sub-100 for $110 on partsexpress.com and not including shipping you've got a decent starter system for $385.Fronts: Polk RTi10

What is the 25% live search cashback and How does it work? Can it be used on auctions too? -
It's something from Microsoft to give you a rebate on certain purchases. There's a process you have to follow. You have to sign up for a MS Live account (www.live.com). Then do a search on Live for a qualifying purchase like "Cheap Wii". In the sponsored ad banner you'll see a link to ebay. Click on that and it will take you to ebay. Now search for anything you want that has Buy It Now.
For eBay purchases, it will NOT work with auctions. As stated, you must use Buy it Now AND pay for paypal. If you did it right, when you go to confirm the order, you should see the 25% MS Live logo. They'll hold your rebate for 60 days (if you decide to return it) then the $ will go to your paypal account. Pretty cool!-Eric

I have been shopping around on the internet and there are some good buys on the Monitor 60's also. If I go with the Monitor 60's instead of the 50's for the front upgrade, will the Polk CS-1 center channel work along with using the RM6750 speakers for the surrounds and sub. Or will the 60's over power the rest of the system. Will the 60's be overkill for the Sony STR-DG820 receiver?

I think that the 50's or 60's would be a good choice. They are not hard to push either so you receiver should be ok. I would defintiely go with the cs2 which can be had for about 5-10 more than the cs1. The front stage are very important so I would say definitely update those first. IMO your surrounds should be fine. You can fine tune all the levels on each speaker so that they can blend. Others will chime in, thats my opinion, hope it helps.
