just bought a pair of monitor 10s off of ebay. I have a couple pair of 7a and they always worked great. anywho, the 10's look to be in good shape but polk speakers alway look good (shiny black). when I first hooked them up - nothing came out of the mids and base - just sound from the peerless. didn't mind too much as I planned on recapping anyway. bought some soniccap 12uf the mills restorors and a jenzen 33uf and recapped and put one togehter tonight. mids and peerless sound great but there is no bass out of the reflex speaker at all - none zilich. now I know these have to be sealed great and checked everything and its all good and tight. when I had the tweeter off checking it I put it almost all the way back in and then tapped on the reflex speaker and I could hear the air whoosing out the tweeter opening - so everything esle was tight - then I went ahead and closed the tweeting down tight. but still no bass at all. I was putting 100 watts through it and the mids where so loud and high it was hurting my ears - but no bass. kinda got me stumped. what do I check next??

The woofer.
You got a DVM?~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
well I think I know whats up -at least sort of. I did the push test on my monitor 7a and I can quite easly see when I push the relex speaker in the mid goes out in unsion. when I do that test on the monitor 10s - nothing. I push on the relfex and the mids stay still. actually the mids dont see flexable at all. when I push on them - they don't move.

looks like i paid to much for these ebay "like mint" speakers. the mids are frozen up something awful.

The woofers are notorious for having the magnets come loose if they are dropped, which is very likely if they are shipped. It may be possible to fix them if you can fabricate some type of jig that will hold everything perfectly in place while the magnets are epoxied in place. I tried to fix one, but just mangled the voice coil.

They can not be fixed. I have had around a dozen frozen drivers over the years, and I have tried to fix them. No such luck:( You need replacements.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

A frozen driver is a garbage driver.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Dang, that is probably why I lost a few Polk car speakers. The cones would freeze up. The road pounding and vibrations likely caused the magnets to shift. These drivers were very similar to the MW650x series. They were labeled Mobile Monitors MM6501 and MM6520.Stan

Are the 6 1/2" speakers making sound (mid/woofers)?? Because if they are...I believe you've got an air leak somewhere or a damaged passive radiator. Try playing them in a draft free room while holding a candle close to all the driver edges and see if the flame gets blown sideways at all. If it does.....you'll know where you need to do some sealing, this thread shows a good method of sealing !:)
