What speakers next?
Hi all,
First post....
Currently I have RTI8s with a psw505 sub hooked to each for my main speakers and really like the way they sound. I listen to a lot of 2 channel as well they get a lot of HT use. I was planning on moving them to the back of my HT and replacing them. After some digging around I found that the RTI10s are not very good for 2 channel listening. So I figured I would go with RTI12s.
Currently I have a Panasonic SA-XR55 reciever. Which puts out 100 watts per channel. I have heard the 12s need far more power than the 8s. Is this enough power for the 12s or am I looking at getting an amp?
My other option is to just get another set of 8s. I am on a budget so that is why I am going with the RTI series as I can get them on clearance at different outlets.
I am also considering the Axiom M60 v2. I can source them locally as I am in Ontario, Canada.

Unless you plan to upgrade your receiver or get an amp, I would stick with the RTi8's. Actually four RTi8's might be too much for that receiver. If you are happy with how the 8's sound, just get a pair of smaller speakers for your rear (RTi4 or Fxi3).

An amp is a possibility. Is there something decent I can get in the 100s of $ as opposed to the ones I am seeing in the 1000s of $$$$$?

Absolutely; if you are willing to buy in the used market (most of us do), you can get a nice 2 channel, or even multichannel for a lot less that $1,000. Check the flea market here or audiogon.com_________________________________________________

Your receiver will power either set of speakers BUT you will not be able to get the speakers full sound potential. Your current speakers ask for 20-250wpc and the RTi12s ask for double the power, 50-500wpc. With your current setup if you add the 12s your receiver is going to run out of power pretty fast.Unless you plan to upgrade your receiver or get an amp, I would stick with the RTi8's. Also, I thought this might be of "some interest" to you.
