Hopefully someone out there can help me and tell me why my Pioneer SX1050 and SX1250 when hooked up to the sda's at half volume the speaker protection on the receiver kicks in. I have tried both receivers and 2 different pairs of sda's. I have a Pair of SDA 2's and SDA CRS+. Both have the same result. I have verified the receivers and they are both common ground.

Any suggestions?
I have taken the receivers into the shop and they say they are fine.

Simple, the receivers are clipping at that volume level.

No offense to you sir, but my advice would be the sell them and get some real hifi gear.

If by "half-volume" you mean the volume knob is at half point on its rotation, then F1Nut nailed it. Great sounding receivers in their day, and still not half-bad (although I'm a vintage Marantz fan!), but not enough guts in the amp section for that type of use.

Im not 100% percent certain but there is a good chance that the polks you have are a 4 ohm nominal load and can and will dip down to 2 ohms often. If I remember correctly none of the SX-series receivers were rated for a 4 ohm load. Most likely even the SX-1980 which is rated at 300 wpc into 8 ohms wouldndt like it and chances are would go into protection. I have one and it's a great receiver but it's not made for the 4 ohm polks.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

What type of budget do you have? It's hard to reccomend something without knowing what that is.

Maybe you are driving your equipment too hard based on your comments in this thread. Just a thought.

Well that shouldndt be hard to do. I suggest you try a Sunfire amp 300 X 2 or a Signature 600 X 2 amp they will both drive any polk speaker ever made easily.
