Creating a setup on a budget.
Hello.. i just purchased 2 monitor 60's on sale and i grabbed a psw10 sub. What i want to know is what are some good speakers to go along with the monitor 60's.. im trying to keep it as low as possible but i can do more if its worth it. Im looking around and i read the cs2 was a big improvement over the cs1, also would the monitor 40's be good for rear? And what are you guys using for surround speakers? I see polk has alot of nice ones like the fx 4, 6 but those bring a hefty price tag at the moment. I should also mention i have a Pioneer elite 01TXH thats 110w per channel 770 total i belive. Thanks for any info

Hello Steve and before I forget, welcome to Club Polk. One good rule of thumb when building any system is to match your speakers well, the CS1 or CS2 would be a good match for your Monitor 60's, I myself have the CS2, but I have the Monitor 70's. I too have the Monitor 40's as my surrounds and they work quite well, however the only downfall to the 40's is they are quite large and are not (easily or factory designed) wall mountable. I am going to get some shelves to put mine on eventually, but I suppose that stands may be an option as well. I'm sure you could rig up some sort of mounting bracket or make one work, but that all depends on how good a carpenter you are I guess. Hope this helps.HT Rig

Thanks for the info. You must have a 5.1 setup right? I'm wondering if using 2 monitor 30's as my surrounds and 2 40's as the rear for a 7.1 setup. I'm not sure how that would work because they sell speakers that are just for surround like http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/fxia4/ . Those are specifically for that so would the monitor 30 not be appropriate for the surround speakers? And are the monitor 40 a good rear speaker?

Yes I run a 5.1 only because of a lack of room, lol. My receiver is 7.1, but don't utelize the surround backs as of yet. I like my Monitor 40's for surrounds and they work well for me, if I were you I would stay away from the fxia4's only because the 30's and or 40's would be a better match for your 60's. I may be wrong on this, but I would get either two sets of 40's or two sets of 30's to use as 7.1. I may be wrong on that and if I am I'm sure someone will be able to explain why. Also, unless you have adequate space to enjoy a 7.1 system, you won't gain anything by cramming 2 extra speakers in where 5 would work just as well.HT Rig

+1 I have the 50's as fronts and 40's as surrounds. I bought the 30's for my rears and I dont have them hooked up because I dont have the space to have it setup correctly. 40's are big and I have them on stands. I like them because of there good mids on the surround channels. 5.1 works for me right now and when I get room I will hook up my 30's. I like the monitor series. Some say they are bright but I think my onkyo warms them up a bit.
