Well, I got some more caps to play around with. All are in the mass market Polk owner majority price range, which includes me. These are mainly for the RTi8’s, the Dayton 12uf’s are for the LP on the RTi6. I originally used a Janzen400v dropping to a 250v there and on the 7.5uf using a 400v Mpp for the trim. (PS. the 6’s are for sale after this mod. The better half laid the hammer down on no black) The Solen 3.0 is for the RT55’s. Used a DVMMC meter to test each manufactures tolerances and all came well within the 5% spec.

They are big as usual; These 2 pics put it in perspective for us common folk.

These Solens’ are now made in Canada at a new facility see results below.

I literally measured all the caps with the calipers (see pic 1) to see how true they are cylindrically. They were all within a few 1000th of an inch. The smaller value caps final tape wraps were clean. All epoxy work over the end plates and leads were nice particularly the new Solen. The leads were not perfectly centered in the middle of the epoxy on any except the Daytons. None of that matters really but it reaffirms my top choices. Till I hear the new Solen on the RT55, HP circuit. What matters are the
readings below…

2-Jantzen 27uf: 27.03uf and 26.69
2-Jantzen 12uf: 11.80uf and 11.76
2-Jantzen 10uf: 10.04uf and 10.00
6-Jantzen .47uf: .4691uf-.4691-.4686-.4676-.4671-.4629
4-Jantzen .22uf: .2180-.2177-.2175-.2168
2-Dayton 12uf: 12.04uf and 11.91
2-Solen 3.0uf: 3.000uf and 3.051

All in all; they all were way beyond what I expected except the fact that the Jantzen big boys wraps were wrinkly. I might even like Solen again if they solved the “grainy” sound with the new machines. The small value Jantzen’s are 400Vdc and are compact, good lookin and will solve a “microphony” issue with the larger size Dayton F&F I used originally for the RTi6 - .47trim. I forgot about a few EMF, RF avoidances in my old age. No biggie, just shorten, shield or move the leads. I will post pics and sound reviews on all 3 pairs when I am done with everything I feel needs to be done. Should be done very soon on the 55's and RTi6. The 8's are going to be hand matched caps, meaning ordering a few more.

It's best to order 3 or 4 caps instead of 2 of each value to match yourself instead of paying out the wazoo for em. They weigh so little it cost about 5 bucks to ship back to PE. You can get and return, if you wish, an Ideal-DVOMMC at Lowes for 34 dollar to measure with. It's not brain surgery replacing caps.

Hope this helps and motivates you,

Paul
